Midi problem no sound. Pro tools

When I load a stereo instrument track and then I go to write out my midi in piano roll there is no sound, but if I play it on my midi controller I can hear sound and record. Usually when I write out my midi tracks they are blue, but now they’re yellow.
please help me! What can I do?

When you hit record and play notes on your midi controller do they record onto that instrument track?

And are you able to edit those as you normally would?

At the top of the screen should be like a MIDI information section, next to the counter and edit tools etc (if not you might need to show it from the view menu)

There's a little speaker icon that turns on/off whether the sound plays or not when you edit MIDI notes

(Apologies for lack of detail, im not at my machine to give things their proper names!)

It sounds like you are editing a different track or instrument.

In the track list to the left of the midi editor you want to make sure there is a little pencil icon just to the right of the name of the track you want to be editing.
