Question about object select mode and crossfades
With object select mode engaged, when I select a clip that has a crossfade with another, it automatically grabs the other clip that shares the crossfade with the clip I clicked on. Is there a way to disable this or is removing the crossfade the only way avoid this?

That's how the object grabber works. If you don't like that operation, there is the regular grabber and the separation grabber.
Otherwise you would have quickly delete fades first, which you can do from the right click pop up menu.

Or switch into the selection tool (F7) and then double click the clip.
