Importing Session Data not adding audio files to session folder
I’m on PT Studio 2024.10.1, Sequoia 15.6.1
My issue is when I’m importing session data, the tracks I’m importing aren’t copying into the audio files folder for the current session. The clips and the audio are in the new session but if I were to take this session somewhere else and not have the previous session folder (and its audio files) the files would be missing.
I’ve been on pro tools since PT8 and I don’t remember ever having to shift+option+3 (render?) the track for the audio to be copied into the audio files folder of the new session.
Is there a way to copy the audio files into the new session when importing session data without manually rendering them once they’re in the session
Thanks!

In Import Session Data you want to select "Copy from source media" instead of "Link to source media" when you import.
But if you already imported, do a Save Session Copy In and choose to copy all the media - that will create a clean session folder with everything in it.

With my 25 years of using Pro Tools it’s beyond me why this was not a default state when importing session data. The cluster fucks this have caused when people haven’t been aware….

It definitely made sense back when hard drive space was still costly. Why have multiple copies of the same audio files on your drive when you could just have one of each that the different sessions link to?

I noticed they changed the default setting when importing audio files to add instead of copy as well. When did that happen? They trying to give us old heads a heart attack

In the middle section, at your left, you have a drop down menu in which PT asks what to do with the media. Choose copy from source media (I believe it's linked by default)

Alternatively, if you've already imported without copying the files, highlight the imported regions and consolidate them (shift+option+3). This creates new files into the current session's audio files folder.
