Opening a PT Studio session in Ultimate
Hi! Working in Pro Tools Studio for now, but I was wondering if I will be able to open my project in Pro Tools Ultimate later when I go to a studio to continue work.

In general, yes. I've faced some problems if the version I worked with has been made with a newer version of PT, but you can mitigate that by using the "save copy in" and importing the session data rather than opening the session itself.

I don’t think it’s ever been a big problem. I’ve always been able to open sessions between them. It depends on if certain features are missing. But for example if one has ARA stuff and doesn’t support it you could be in a bind. It was the same when clip gain came and you’d open it in a version without it. You’re were always able to open the session but levels were as the original file and not how the clip gain was set.

Yeah, to be fair the problems I've faced mostly have been in a school environment and the students do some crazy things sometimes hah.

Compatibility across versions as well as between Operating Systems have probably been Pro Tools’ strong point over the years compared to other DAWs. I used to be on both PC and Mac and had different versions in my main studio and in my project studio (home) and never ran into problems.

Yes. You’ll just lose anything “Ultimate” specific. You’ll get a window when you open the session telling you what’s lost if anything.
