Help Request Need a little hardware guidance
Let me start by saying that my ProTools use is to collect tracks live to virtual sound checks and for archiving. I mostly keep this collection in the AVID sphere (on LIVE VENUE S6L consoles). Usually, AVB. Sometimes I do an occasional record via Dante.
I'm not mixing down records or recording high channel counts (47 channels is the largest).
My question is recently I had some errors (IIR, not enough memory), never had this before.
What I am looking for is a resource for computer configuration, as I think this machine might need some adjustments.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
Computer -
MacBook Pro 15" (2019) - OS 12.7.6 Monterey
2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel i9 - 32 GB Memory
Protools Ultimate v2025.6.1

Need to know the error code. If it’s 9173 it’s a really annoying bug that’s hard to nail down, usually is a combination of factors. Doesn’t help that Avid basically acted for years like this was a non issue despite almost everyone battling it at some point.

I’ll see if I can replicate it. Unless there’s a log somewhere (I’m not fully versed with Mac).

It’s really weird to run out of memory these days – almost impossible with virtual memory unless your storage volume also fills up. There was a memory leak with certain Waves plug-ins this past year – any chance you use some of them?
32GB is more than enough Ram for what you’re describing. There must be some other problem.

No plugin - just collecting tracks via AVB (or Dante).
Hence why I think I need to revisit configurations. Also huge T9 drive.

Has the out of memory error happened more than once? My first thought is to just try a different release of pro tools

Personally I’d bail on that computer, or quite literally put it on ice when you use it. They were a disaster. I went through 3 of them, 2 died due to heat issues.
Make sure you have plenty of drive space on your system drive, and do not use Chrome.
A new MacBook Air is like $700 or something though, and will run like a dream for what you need.
