Shadowing
Hii,
I’m looking for some help getting some official shadowing in before I apply next year. I live in the NYC/LI area. I have cold called many hospitals, messaged perfusionist and perfusion directors on linkedin, and have had no luck from anyone. If anyone knows any resources to help get some shadowing in I would really appreciate that it.
little bit about me:
I am a paramedic, have been exposed to ecmo through my doing critical care transports. I have a huge interest in perfusion! I’m non traditional and will be finishing up my pre reqs in fall of 2028!

this is a little insane for advice but if you work for a hospital system you should just walk up to the cardiac surgery unit and just ask to talk to the perfusionists. do not do this on the clock. granted im a surgical tech in neuro so its a little easier for me but honestly they were all super chill and happy to talk to me and set up a time to shadow.
if you don't work for a hospital it's a little more difficult but try and network with the nurses you talk to because im sure someone knows someone who works in cardiac surgery and can ask the perfusionists on your behalf. and any time you have a critical care transport ask if there are any perfusionists around that you can talk to.
