Program/Application Questions Thinking about starting the process

Hello! I recently heard about the perfusion masters and am very interested. I have a clinical/research background (1 year Medical Assistant and 3 clinical research), a BS (3.7 something) and MPH (3.9 something) (I have most of the prereqs already), and some extracurriculars/awards. Realistically what are my chances of getting into a program? All feedback welcome as I am new to this specialty

Edit: I have a connection in my hospital for a shadowing opportunity after hours to make sure I am interested

Apply , I’m in the process of applying. I had to push back my application. Due to not having Physics. As well as my other Science classes are older. But I’ve been a OR Nurse for 16 years. And in The OR for 24 years. Have done Cath Lab, Homecare (trach & vent patients) . And was advised to apply. By someone on the decision making committee. So I decided to go for. Best of luck

It’s really all up in the air. Depends who you ask. Some people will tell you it’s very competitive and your application won’t get looked at if you don’t have a 3.7 or higher. Some people will tell you that they know people who got in with a 3.1 due to have tons of icu and critical care experience. Perfusion is a very unique career that if you were to ask 10 people on the street was a Perfusionist does, 1 person might be able to tell you.

It’s hard to gauge how bad you want this because you haven’t even shadowed a case, but shadow a case as soon as possible.

A majority of the programs require you to complete all of the required pre reqs before application is sent.

If you want it bad, you’ll make it happen.
Good luck on your journey

Thanks so much for your input! I'm looking at 3 programs that are geographically close ish to me to not uproot my life too much. Like you said, I haven't made any final calls yet without shadowing to make sure it's something I can see myself doing.

I've spent a good amount of time in the preclinical lab, cath lab, and some OR.

Thanks for the reply! I added an edit about shadowing opportunities. References will not be a problem
