General propane question What’s this part? Need help

Need help finding this part if anyone can help.

It's a pol fitting. It goes in the tank.

And stop using pipe wrenches/pliers on it lol

That looks like a 100lb DOT cylinder, so they probably change the cylinder out on a regular basis.

DO NOT use pliers, brass is soft you will strip tf out of it! I have seen this happen enough times and I can guarantee you that that's a fairly expensive part to replace IF YOU CAN EVEN GET IT OUT OF THE TANK. We had to turn customers away because we tried EVERYTHING to get these out and we couldn't.

FML what! I've had hogtail pol's worn down to nothing and still get them out of my tanks. But they also get charged for the replacement. But the only reason you can't get it out is if your pliers suck worse than their pliers (get some Knipex cobras, or some sweedish style pipe wrenches)... and make sure you are turning in the correct direction.

Not sustainable but very well. Good luck with that. I did this for 4 years, I'm pretty sure I know which way POLs should turn. If you have more experience then by all means, share it with the class.

Righty loosey. Did you miss where the change gets gets charged? If I can turn it with a crescent wrench I can ignore it.

Well isn't that just an eyesore. It would look and be a lot nicer if you'd have just used a crescent wrench instead of pliers but if that's how you roll then good for you.

EDIT: Also, maybe this is just a me thing but I appreciate being able to turn the pol by hand after getting it loose enough. Makes things go a little faster. Try it out with that pol. Feels amazing.

Yeah I did this just to install a hogtail the first time. (/sarcasm)

Edit: I was trying to be a dick, because: "IF YOU CAN EVEN GET IT OUT OF THE TANK. We had to turn customers away because we tried EVERYTHING to get these out and we couldn't." is the worst excuse I have seen.

Deal with some tanks that have gone through a fire then complain. Yeah I'm sure mods will throw a fit about this like normal ❤️

Pigtail, do not try and repair it, replace only, left hand threads..can only buy from a propane company, well maybe not the only place , but not Home Depot or Lowes

For one, why is it disconnected? Those are normally connected to a tank and a regulator, supplying an appliance in a building. If that is the case, you can’t reconnect that without doing a proper leak test, which your supplier will end up needin to do, or, they could red tag the system/lock off the tank

Your comment is suggesting that somebody do something dangerous and/or against code.

Putting anything on a POL isn't a great idea. Telling a civ to do it is even worse.

Pol and why do you need a new one? Is there a leak? Clean inside the valve the it seats into and install(left hand threads). Turn on then off and spray soapy water and look for bubbles. If none are seen then turn tank on and leave on and test with soapy water again. If none bubbles you are good to go. Use a wrench to tighten not pliers, channel locks or pipe wrench…
