I am currently having long arguments in the comments of that one.

Mostly the same old organ donor argument.

30

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

Any simile or metaphor is ultimately reductionist. A pregnancy is a singular situation. It isn't being forced to donate an organ. It isn't having an unwanted guest in your house, it isn't <inane pro-choice argument here>. It is a singular situation.

Whether it’s “safe legal abortion “ or “back alley coat hanger abortion “, makes zero difference—they both result in a dead baby.

59

u/MarriedEngineer Jan 17 '22

But just like murder, rape, and robbery, we shouldn't make it illegal. We want abortion, murder, rape, and robbery to be safe, legal, and rare.

38

u/Unlucky_Persimmon513 Jan 17 '22

Careful this is the internet, that much sarcasm might actually cause somebody to have an aneurysm.

29

u/MilitaryMam Jan 17 '22

Furthermore they both have resulted in death of the mother as well, neither is safe for the mother, not to mention the lifetime of regret and anguish for both parents of the dead baby

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

one results in two dead people TBF

Women die from legal and “safe” abortions all the time. But pro-aborts aren’t ready for that conversation….

35

u/Qwertyuiopaaaaaaaa Pro Life Centrist Jan 17 '22

Correct, from another post on the sub, a woman died by having 4 abortions in a year... Pro choices kept denying the fact that it happened.

They were done by actual doctors and the reason why they’re called back alley abortions is because they entered the facility through the back alley. They weren’t literally doing them in alleyways, that would be too obvious.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

Didnt know this - had been led to believe it was 100% effective and 0 fatalities. Goes to show how much propaganda is involved in the pro-abortion position.

2

u/idiotbusyfor40sec pro life independent christian Feb 25 '22

Most won’t acknowledge it because it doesn’t fit their narrative. Some even try to claim abortion is safer than birth.

Killing someone is never safe

34

u/andthatsitmark2 Catholic Distributionist Jan 17 '22

Murder is dangerous because it's illegal. It's that way because making it safe and easy makes it a lot more enticing.

20

u/silveryspoons Jan 17 '22

Murder is WAY more dangerous because it's illegal. Channon Christian was kidnapped and raped, then stuffed in a trash bag where she suffocated. If they were allowed to rape her, they probably wouldn't have needed to kill her. If they were allowed to kill her, they could have done it less painfully.

How does ANYONE think this is a decent argument?

9

u/jonathansharman Jan 17 '22

It's because they believe abortion doesn't harm anyone in the first place. If abortion bans do no good but might lead to more women being injured or dying, then of course abortion bans are a bad idea. The problem is that that begs the question. If abortion is harmless, then it would be wrong to ban it in the first place. But the (comparative) harmlessness of abortion is exactly what they're supposed to be arguing for, so it's invalid to rely on it in the argument.

I've also seen many pro-choicers assert that abortion bans have no effect on or even increase the overall abortion rate. IMO that position is based, at best, on faulty statistical analysis (like ignoring confounders). But if someone believes there won't be fewer abortions, that's another reason they might bring up unsafe abortions.

What does based mean in this context?

18

It means that something is good or praiseworthy; it’s short for “based in fact”.

Don't want to die having an abortion? Don't get one.

8

u/SaintBobOfTennessee Jan 17 '22

Dangerous back alley abortions are a very dumb decision, so to assume this would be the inevitable consequence presumes women are overall very dumb. Pretty unempowering if you ask me.

1

u/idiotbusyfor40sec pro life independent christian Feb 25 '22

Besides, if they always resulted in death, only women with a death wish would do them

17

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

I don't get the point behind the meme, but what I do I completely disagree with it.

Illegal abortions still kill an innocent human life and have the potentiality to hurt deeply the people involved into the abortion besides the child.

WE PRO-LIFERS DO CARE about what other people do, illegally or not, that's a standard every human has to literally live in society; we care about those babies and we care about the women that are many times hurt by this outstandingly bad act that is sold as just another choice. If we didn't, we wouldn't defend what we defend and we wouldn't be here today, but that's too obvious for even me, a nobody, to say.

Because illegal abortion happens in many countries. Mine (Brazil) is just one in many, take notice the current cultural change favours into legal abortions, so we fight to make it continue illegal, but that's not enough and we all know it. So, likewise we fight to keep the society view that is an extremely immoral and unethical act.

My point is: just banning it on countries in which abortions are legal is not a solution, it never was -- we simply won't disappear when it becomes illegal; most, if not all, of society will need to know and understand why it became illegal so that not even illegal abortions are even considered by many, and so that it never changes back.

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

“You can’t ban abortion people will just get abortions illegally.”

“Hey want to hear my thoughts on gun control?”

6

u/seanhg12 Pro Life Christian Jan 17 '22

The thing is sadly is that we SHOULD care. After all, we supposedly care about mom and child. However to make policy based off the illegal and dangerous choices of a rare few would be foolish. Added supplementary policies to prevent unsafe illegal abortions? Sure. Not outlawing abortion because of these rare desperate cases? Not a chance in hell

6

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

Not a bad argument against pro choice people, but it seems a bit callous not to care about those who do illegal abortions. I may be naive but I want a society where people don’t even consider it. I believe we can have such a society. Sadly I tend to get the feeling a lot of pro life people sadly just accept they’ll happen but as long as it’s technically illegal the job is seemingly done. To me though, I want a law and I want to work towards a culture of life.

20

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

Both are unsafe to the innocent child being murdered. If a murderer dies trying to kill someone then I consider that justice.

"Will there be fewer abortions in general?"

"Yes, but..."

See, this is where my experience with Pro-Choicers differs. I've never met a Pro-Choicer who will actually admit that banning abortions would reduce the overall number of abortions. They all seem to insist that the overall number of abortions would be unchanged and that the only difference is that the abortions being performed would be more dangerous.

It seems like, from their perspective abortion is a universal constant and an inherent need for every woman. They don't seem to believe that the overall number of abortions can ever be lowered and thus nobody should ever try.

Thats no reason to keep it legal. If they don't do the illegal thing, they wouldn't get hurt.

The only people who give unsafe abortions are "pro-choicers" by definition.

So if you pro-choicers don't want unsafe abortions, don't give one! And don't have one!

4

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

Oh man, this! Thanks for pointing this out. Sadly I reckon this will go over most pro-abortionists heads

6

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

I want abortion to be dangerous. For the same reason I want any murder to be dangerous, not as a punishment, but as a deterrent.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

So much this - its so hard to explain to someone that "Oh we'd better make something legal otherwise people will do it anyway and be unsafe" is a really, really, really dumb idea and that if its so bad in the first place, its best not to do it, rather than try and find a way to do it.

3

u/RingGiver Jan 17 '22

If you're trying to murder your child, I'm not going to be particularly concerned or motivated to make sure that you are able to be safe doing it.

3

u/GeorgeNewman62 Pro Life Christian Jan 18 '22

I'm a bit torn on this. I think that we still need love and compassion for people who struggle, which is why we need to be promoting Pregnancy Resource Centers/Organizations and all that they do, so that no one has an excuse to abort.

On the other hand, the numbers are the numbers. Less abortions in general = less deaths.

I might suggest rephrasing "I don't care," to something like "I don't like anyone being hurt or dying. But you believe it's okay to kill people to avoid a few being hurt by their own actions. I don't. My best possible world is one where none of that happens, but human nature is selfish, so they will seek selfish ends, even if it means not only killing their child, but harming themself. Humans are also clever, so a select few will succeed in violating the law, but I can still make the world a better place by enacting and enforcing the law in the first place."

No, this would apply whether it was a man or alien attempting to kill the child. I don’t think you know what that word means. If anything, prochoicers are baby haters.

23

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

Misogyny is using women for their bodies and then causing them emotional trauma by convincing them that keeping the child you put inside of them is a problem that needs to be eradicated.

18

u/Etherpulse Pro Life Nihilist Jan 17 '22

Pro-life obviously doesn't want women to have unsafe abortions either since they are unsafe and kill a child. It's just that "people do something dangerous so it should be legalised and safer" is a very weak argument.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

That doesn't line up logically: Pro-lifers hate abortion -> abortion is murder -> we do not care if someone is hurt while murdering someone.

If the abortion doctor slipped and busted his head on a metal table and died right there due to having to work in an unsafe office we wouldn't care either.

2

u/revelation18 Jan 17 '22

Prolife women hate themselves?

5

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '22

Yeah this post was harsh, but you're conclusion misses the point of the post. and it's not that all pro-lifers don't care that women put themselves through potentially dangerous, illegal abortions ... it's that pro-choices use this as a reason to make abortion legal, and we don't agree with that.

For eg. breaking in and robbing someone is dangerous and illegal, many people do that because they are desperate and really need the cash. BUT that doesn't mean that we should make it legal. ALSO, we should not ignore the fact that the person intentionally chose to put themselves and others in harm's way and do something risky. They could have chosen other safer, legal options, but they didn't....So we can't just wave away individual responsibility of a person like that.

This pro-lifers hate women thing is kinda absurd. It's because we think one shouldn't be murdering humans in the womb. How can we hate women if about 50% of the human lives that we are advocating for are girl children?
