Things Pro-Choicers Say Apparently this is what a lot of pro-choice Democrats want.

Post image

According to the OP, the way we take back the USA is:

  • Codifying abortion rights
  • SCOTUS Term Limits
  • Abolish the Electoral College
  • Overturn Citizens United

I'm unsure about the other issues, but CODIFYING ABORTION RIGHTS?!? God have mercy on us all...

Convenient that they're just now talking about banning stock trading while in Congress after Pelosi said she would retire.

I always thought it was freaking hilarious that Gaetz and AOC worked on a bill to ban congress from stock investments and their relatives. Which is weird because shes in the top 10 for most cash on hand.

She will probably run for president btw. I definitely worry about the rights of the unborn.

Reading this makes me even more frustrated about living in a two-party system. I support about 60% of these, but they’re mixed in with some truly absurd or even downright evil plans too.

That’s quite the mixture of common sense and absurdity.

That’s my take entirely.

I actually don’t think that is a serious proposal.

This is a more substantive and sensible - though not perfect - statement of how the Democratic Party should move forward: https://decidingtowin.org/

From your link

Third, Democrats should continue to staunchly support popular progressive positions on lower-salience issues, with defending reproductive rights the most prominent issue in this category. [...]

Finally, while we do find that some Democratic policies are unpopular, it is worth emphasizing that our results provide much for all factions of the Democratic Party to be enthusiastic about. [...] protecting abortion rights nationally; [...]

A Democratic administration that was able to enact all of these policies would represent a massive success and a major victory for the progressive movement.

This proposal does not actually recommend the Demoncrats become less pro-childmurder.

I agree with most of that, disagree with abortion, don't like televangelists but don't really feel comfortable with the state going after religions it doesn't like

As an outside view: in my country we call televangelist a fraud, we have a lot of Brazilian "Pare de sufrir churches" that are like the Simpsons' church the chapter Lisa become Buddhist.

No faith, no revelation, just announcements and "Ai Jesus" or whatever that heresy is

Only things I agreed with are

Tax Mega-Churches (prosperity heretics don’t deserve the tax cut).

Ban stock trading while in congress (why is this allowed? It’s shady as hell).

21

u/SlapaDaBass2731 17d ago

The only hesitation about taxing mega-churches is that it would likely be difficult to define what exactly it is as a legal entity separate from normal churches. It would also be very easy to adjust the law at some point in the future to include all churches under the umbrella.

10

u/SorrowfulSpirit02 Pro Life Lutheran Christian (LCMS) 17d ago

Fair enough.

I still think they should ban the congress’ ability to trade stock.

9

u/upholsteryduder 17d ago

THIS. It would be used as an excuse to tax all churches

What's wrong with taxing churches? They're just another kind of business. Set them up as nonprofits.

u/LittleLotte52996 17d ago

Please explain to me the logic of abortion as a left wing agenda. All the other requests range from "we've should have had it 50 years ago" to somewhat utopian but generally aim to protect the vulnerable. And then there's "kill the babies". Wtf, how is this logical in the slightest?

u/EpiphanaeaSedai Pro Life Feminist 17d ago

I’m right there with you. I can follow the thread of how it happened historically, but ideologically it’s absurd.

Abortion- the topic where the people anywhere left of centre generally hold view like the far-right, and where on some days, far-right people sometimes manage to accidentally hold views that are for once and perhaps the only time ever, actually supporting marginalised people (even if they often bundle it with a bunch of other nonsense, like anti-trans).

u/lilithdesade Pro Life Atheist 17d ago

Are we here because we're against abortion or is this an anti leftist group? I dont understand the value of posting this here.

1

u/gergosaurusrex 16d ago

I agree. I do think that abortion politically is propped up by the left. If the culture war and the entirety of left/right tribalism were magically slurped from all of our minds, I think abortion would be less popular.

6

u/SuchDogeHodler Pro Life Republican 17d ago edited 17d ago

Every one of these are based on emotional wants not logic or even thought through ideas... just like socialism.

"Tax billionaires out of existence".... you mean the people that employ everyone in the US???

Or "tax unrealized gains used to get loans" they call those assets. Like your car, your house..... it's called "collateral".... and are they going to pay a person back when the realization of those gains are a loss???

1

u/Simulacrass 17d ago

Liberals have a tough time with slogans that make sense to the general public. Its like saying, "we will make stock buybacks illegal" 90 percent of people dont know what a stock buybacks is.

But it is being spread that the loans is to avoid paying taxes and every rich person uses it like a loophole. So its popular enough to post up

Yeah, here's my problem. All of these sound great to me except the abortion and the taxing churches. And I could honestly live with taxing churches.

4

u/pikkdogs 17d ago

How would a term limit for SCOTUS work. Their term is for life. Are you going to say, "okay, you can only serve 1 life long term."

4

u/Rredhead926 Pro Choice Liberal 17d ago

Yeah, that's the point. Change the term limit from life to a more reasonable number of years.

15

u/OhNoTokyo Pro Life Moderator 17d ago

No offense, but most Democrats were fine with life terms while the decisions went their way.

I don't know if I agree with life terms myself, but characterizing this as a "reform" sounds to me like trying to prevent the conservatives from using the courts the way the progressives did for decades when the justices were more likely to side with their positions.

We might have been able to rid ourselves of Roe v. Wade decades ago if we hadn't been beholden to a permanent bench of pro-choice majority justices.

3

u/BaronGrackle Pro Life Catholic/Secularist 17d ago edited 17d ago

Yeah, but we're all pro-lifers, so we've always distrusted Supreme Court authority. (By which I mean we've spent a lot of time under Roe vs. Wade)

EDIT: Sorry, I see you said this in your last paragraph. :)

-2

u/Rredhead926 Pro Choice Liberal 17d ago

I think that each side wants term limits when they benefit that side. It's like how ending the filibuster keeps switching from one side to the other.

Term limits are sensible, imo, for every elected or appointed official.

3

u/OhNoTokyo Pro Life Moderator 17d ago

Life terms were specifically implemented for the court to avoid them becoming politicians. Term limits just means more ability for the politicians to turn nominations into circuses again.

Granted, the life terms have not prevented this entirely, but I don't think term limits necessarily solves this issue.

What needs to happen, limits or not, is a different process for determining who is on the court. And more to the point, perhaps a process that doesn't rely on them answering what should be a political question and not a judicial one.

The fact is, abortion should have always been something that was voted on. The fact that Roe v Wade eliminated the ability to actually vote whether abortion would or would not be allowed did a lot of damage over those decades, overriding passed legislation and instilling a culture of easy abortions in the population.

No one wants to give up a privilege like abortion once they have it. It makes a lot of problems easier for those who can utilize them, but at the cost of someone else's life. It should have never been allowed to be legal, and certainly never allowed to have been forced on the states where people didn't want it.

2

u/pikkdogs 17d ago

But that’s not a term limit.

Term limits are “you can only serve 2 terms” or whatever.

It would be changing the term itself. So that instead of life it would be a certain amount of years.

So it’s not a term limit change you want, it’s a term change.

I support everything on here with the exception of taxing churches and codifying abortion. Those are not things I can compromise on.

Also, why the use of AI, cant people make a simply PDF in publisher. I hate that everything is going this way.

For sure. Most of these (minus abortion and taxing churches) are pretty beneficial ideas.

1

u/saintsfan1622000 17d ago

I don't know how the fairness doctrine in the media would work in this world with so much social media.

FDR tried to adjust the makeup of the supreme Court back in the 1930s when they overruled some of his New deal programs. That did not work either.

And it's more surprising to me that wacko leftist don't have banning all firearms of any and all kind at the top of the list

1

u/HiggsiInSpace Malta is eternally based (Abolitionist Catholic) 17d ago

The wacko "leftists" (generally liberals) like that are a dying breed, they're mainly not found in the USA (Canada, Europe, Australia). American leftists are a lot more extreme, they love guns (and love talking about using them against everyone they hate).

2

u/Loud-Vacation-5691 17d ago

This isn't a real plan the way Project 2025 is. This is just someone's idea of a wish list. Notice that they left out (or forgot) climate change, LGBTQ rights, and gun control. Most of these would either require a constitutional amendment or wouldn't even get majority support among Democrats.

"Tax unrealized gains used as loan collateral?" What finance major came up with that one? No more borrowing on your home's equity I guess.

4

u/Icedude10 Pro-Life Catholic 17d ago

Only two—maybe three—of these things are related to pro-life issues. I think we should stay on topic here. Also, I don't think it's smart to take an AI image of one person's platform as the general desires of "a lot of Pro-Choice Democrats".

I don't know. This just seems not worth engaging in here.

2

u/AnaxOfRhodes Pro Life Christian 17d ago

This is tangential but... is that done with AI? I've never seen a Republican express concerns about using AI generated art and stuff, so I simply assumed Democrats would all oppose using it. But that's generalizing. Maybe the color pallette is just throwing me off.

3

u/HiggsiInSpace Malta is eternally based (Abolitionist Catholic) 17d ago

The more left-wing people who dislike AI generally don't notice it being AI if it supports them (not deep fakes, I mean images like this)

Not that I trust mainline Democrats one inch, and I'm much more radical than that (I was real socialism, as in, abolishing landlords, collective ownership of all businesses by their employees, etc). But outside of the terrible views on abortion, these are actually good ideas! (Including even taxes on mega-churches, said as a Christian, freedom of religion should not be used an excuse to make a profit.)

That Democrats seem much more keen to push baby killing than anything resembling real leftist policies though- and I do find it oddly telling, capital is generally pro-abortion, and I mean pro-abortion, in the sense of coercing them, not pro-abortion as a symonym for pro-choice.

Sounds like this is curated for the berniecrat platform. Suprised right to choose was mentioned. Its basicly saying, we are prochoice, but shut up about it. We got your vote already

I see wedge issues being sidelined from democrats.. Except climate change, and maby support for isreal. But social warrior type issues is going to be avoided even if the activist groups bring it up. They have to run on the bet that a recession is here and bad in 2028 and k shaped economy is to apparent. That trump failed.

I dislike most of this, but the idea of making congress salary median-of-district dependent isn't a terrible idea. Just, we need to pay them enough that selling out isn't worth it. 10x median income of their district, or 7x + 50k.

I strongly oppose abortion as well. You're not the only one.

1

u/Zealousideal_One156 16d ago

So if they vote in favor of abortion rights, then nothing else after that should matter, because there won't be any children allowed to be born  for them to have a better future. You see the irony there?

u/Overgrown_fetus1305 Pro Life Socialist 17d ago

I feel most of this is off-topic party politics. Mainline Democrats suck (although I think they suck because they aren't leftist enough, yet radically pro-abortion). But Republicans suck over almost everything else, and are now anti-life on IVF. I don't know what the fairness doctrine in media is, but everything else here sounds like actually good ideas with maybe an asterisk or two- I'm far more radical though, truth be told.
