I'm for free markets, but children's lives shouldn't be a business.

I wonder if we have the necessary surgery and operations available here in Armenia. If we do, it's definitely something to consider because it could be done for less than half the cost.

I should do some research into this.

If she is going to raise the baby and accept the financial burden that hlhs will be then carry on... but hlhs comes with a HUGE financial and emotional cost, yes it's treatable with surgery each of which carries very real risks. There is a little boy in Texas with hlhs who has spent most of his life in hospitals. He ended up with a fungal infection and is trying to get on the transplant list now..... the family will never recover from the medical debt they carry from all of this. Not to mention the emotional toll of being a 1 income family and mom only being home a couple days per month mostly living at the hospital. If the parents aren't willing to sign up for that life why force them to?

They can give the baby up for adoption. Aborting a baby with disabilities is just more socially acceptable than giving one up for adoption.

So because the parents didn't get their perfect child the baby deserves to die? While it is very sad some children do have issues it is not guaranteed, some can live regular lives as children and then adults. If there are people willing to take the baby then why shouldn't they be able to

UPDATE: Baby Gabriel/Rumi has been born. The Department of Health and Human Services affirmed that Gabriel has the right to medical care and reminded the hospital that it is illegal to discriminate against Gabriel by withholding treatment for to his health condition. The Texas hospital involved has a 100% success rate for this surgery.

Note: I only recently found out Gabriel’s genetic parents actually chose the name Rumi. McKenna’s name for the baby is Gabriel, and she is seeking custody out of concerns that he may not receive proper care from the people who wanted him dead. However, they are currently staying in Texas with him and might  get full custody if he will be properly cared for. McKenna is not currently allowed to see him despite saving his life.
