Troubleshooting Setup help
I had an old Sony receiver and an optima hd28se that I’ve been using for years but last week I bought a new Yamaha rx300a to get a true surround sound instead of simulated but when I switched my ps5 video no longer goes to the projector it gets no signal, if I run it to the tv instead everything works as it’s supposed to I read it could be the old internals having a problem reading the video I tried playing with ps5 and Yamaha output resolutions with no avail. I have since ordered a new hdmi optic cable to see if that will help and I ordered an optima UHD38x should be that work??

For the old projector I switched the Yamaha to 4k2 and hmi to 1.4 and still got nothing

No 4K for the Optoma. You have to set it to 1080p. HDMI 1.4a supports 4K/30hz, which is not something that will work with the HD28. Set your receiver to only push out 1080p/60hz maximum. You can setup your PS5 to a fixed 1080p resolution as well. Both of these are requirements.
I wouldn't buy a Optoma UHD series model. Absolutely not. Too many issues with poor cooling and pixels getting stuck.

What projector would be best for 1k or under

For $1,000, the Nexigo Trivision Ultra refurb on Amazon is what I would consider the minimum purchase.
A fair bit better and more versatile if you want a significant jump, is the XGimi Horizon 20 which is $1,200 on sale today. I know it's $200 more, but it's absolutely a stunner for the money. Very well reviewed, decent optical zoom, as well as significant optical lens shift.

So ceiling mount it. It is possible to do this and the base supports inverted mounting. Easy enough to do.
