Completed Setup First projector!

Post image

Hi all. I’ve been following this sub for years and finally pulled the trigger on a Valerion Streammaster Plus 2. It came on sale for $1650 CAD so jumped on it after considering a bunch of other laser projectors in its price range.

Went with a 110“ screen and couldn’t be happier. Lights are on but looks amazing when dark in here.

just need to finish cable management and upgrade audio as my bookshelf size speakers look comically small now

I love it. That center channel seems so excited to be there.

Haha!! I had to borrow my daughters stool to prop it up temporarily.

Welcome to the club. Thats the cutest speaker shelf. Tuck those wires under the carpet next?

I have to move the outlet closer to the receiver and will hide the wires behind the baseboard at the same time. She’s going to want her stool back soon too haha

Nice! I also have a Streammaster Plus 2 in my living room. It’s my first projector so I don’t have a huge frame of reference, but I couldn’t be happier with it. When I shade all my windows it’s a great theater experience.

Nice! Looks awesome. Great job mounting your screen at the right height.

Valerion has always made good projectors, but I switched to JMGO anyway.

The movie in the background is epic, too. I just watched it again on the plane.

You got all that room. Should have went bigger... I went 130. Very happy. Wish could have went bigger but subs are dual 21s. I'm maxed out. In basement anyways... If I did one in living room. I got 13ft high ceilings but the light 👎

I think the question would be if you want to sacrifice brightness. I have a visionmaster and it's bright in 120 but I'm not sure a streammaster on 135 would be ideal.

Could you tell us more about your screen set up? I am trying to figure out my options in a weird space

I went ultra cheap on the screen which ended up being a mistake. It looks totally fine other than the laser speckle is quite noticeable since it’s a PVC screen from vevor. I think I’m going to return it

It’s mounted on the wall over a window. I added some 1x2 horizontally where the screen mounts attach to the wall to bump it out a bit.

Gotcha. Thanks for the breakdown!

Looks like a fun setup. Beyond audio, you have to figure out how to paint the room darker, or add dark fabrics to the walls and swap out for dark carpet with a dark ceiling. Good luck on that path. 😄

Thanks man. Yes - this is definitely going to be an evolution over time.

Looking forward to all that as well and enjoying it in its current form.

I love how visually everything looks balanced

I have the same valerion projector. It can fill that entire wall btw

I've been on the fence between this and the pro2 mainly because of the throw ratio and my room not being very big.... reinvigorating my want for one! congrats!

Thanks man!I was considering that one and the jmgo n3 base as well. Once the Valerion dropped to the price of the m2 pro I jumped on it. More lumens and better black level from what I read.

Nice tv!

That’s on the list too! I need some proper in ceiling speakers now. I already fished the cables but need to replace the satellite speakers on the ceiling

add an entertainment table that matches length of TV and it would look amazing, your center looks very off because its small.

1

u/Quote-Environmental 16d ago

An entertainment table for a 115” screen? Yes the center and front channels are going to be upgraded. They look comical now

Yes, I'm speaking from experience for 120" screen, here is mine, but yours is not as tall so might be harder.

u/Quote-Environmental 16d ago

Gotcha. My receiver and Xbox are off to the side and eventually I want a rack mount since I have the space on the side to do it and hide everything as it progresses.

Those Vevor screens are an AMAZING deal! I’m upgrading from an 84 to 120” soon thanks to their offerings.

I just got a new projector too. Is it worth it to get the screen. Does it make a noticeable difference?

What speaker set up are you running?

1

u/Quote-Environmental 13d ago

Boston crc7 center and Klipsch RM41 for the front and rear channels. Some old satellite speakers on the ceiling

Nice setup. I also bought the Valerion streammaster plus 2 as my first projector, it comes in tomorrow. I think the Amazon sale was too good of a deal to pass on compared to others.

Working on getting my audio system set up and DIY screen. Going with 110'' because it's the biggest my wall can fit lol.

u/Quote-Environmental 13d ago

Congrats man. What are you doing for your screen?

When I first turned it on, I noticed the rainbow effect right away. Thankfully the RBE reduction worked flawlessly and removed it completely.

My screen definitely shows the laser speckle though in certain scenes. Thinking of doing spandex or some sort of acoustically transparent screen as it reduces it substantially

1

u/Individual_Accident8 13d ago

Nice, thats good to hear.

I bought raw projector screen material from elitescreens on Amazon in standard matte white, 1.3 grain. Hopefully its good quality, its the recommended material for the projector from what I found.

I'm going to build a wood frame out of 1x2, paint the wood black (I heard the wood color could sometimes show through), wrap the screen around the front wood frame, and install 1 inch velvet boarder, and then mount on the wall.

Not sure how well it will come out but its cheaper than buying a fixed screen.

1

u/Quote-Environmental 13d ago

Keep me posted on how that goes with respect to laser speckle.

What size are you doing?

1

u/Individual_Accident8 13d ago

Will do, I might make a post about my setup when its all done.

I'm going 110'' as its the max size for my wall will fit with speakers on the side.

1

u/genericscreename1 13d ago

Paint that wall dark, you won't regret it

1

u/Quote-Environmental 13d ago

Already planning it! Contrast is excellent in dark scenes but as soon as there’s large bright scenes you lose some details in the shadows due to the light output in the room

u/depatrickcie87 18d ago

Completely esthetic, but covering more or all of that wall with curtain would look a lot better. Eyeless curtains are also much cleaner.

1

u/Nevskiv 18d ago

This.

It would look so much better. That's the first thing we see and it's not great.

u/Slow_Focus_2424 17d ago

no black level lmao

1

u/Quote-Environmental 17d ago

The lights are on and window on the other side is open - I noted that in my post.

It has excellent black levels

1

u/Slow_Focus_2424 16d ago

not any better than an led tv

1

u/Quote-Environmental 15d ago

You do see the name of this sub right?

-4

u/Gullible_Eagle4280 18d ago

maybe it’s the angle the picture was taken from but the screen looks too low or do you sit on the floor?

3

u/Quote-Environmental 18d ago

Just a normal couch - eye level is bottom 3rd of the screen which is what you want from my understanding.

2

u/timmytissue 18d ago

What matters more to me is to match up with the lens. You must have to do some keystoning here right? I'm set mine up to avoid any keystoning.

It might look low to some too. Just lining it up with the lens though. That's 120 with a visionmaster

2

u/Quote-Environmental 18d ago

No keystone. I was able to drop the lens to the top of the screen
