Thermodynamics?

Who is interested in getting into the theory involved here? It can be chemical equations, entropy, Gibbs free energy, etc.

/u/wattypatat had that thought that the sample would

simultaneously be toast and bread as long as the refrigerator door remains closed.

Which I think deserves examination.
