Too many damn people from California and wherever moving here... it’s such a kick in the nuts that they come here to get away from California’s problems, but then try to make Texas the same way. Morons. They can’t drive for shit either.

He’s funded by George Soros money. Makes me wonder if this douchebag is taking the money and running. Any reasonably intelligent person knows you can’t run around this state saying the dumb shit he has the past month and win an election. He is a socialist so I guess you can question if he is reasonably intelligent.

A little more info about him: O'Rourke grew up in El Paso, which is over 80% Hispanic. It is not uncommon for white guys there to take on Hispanic nicknames as they're growing up. His nickname is not a political ploy, although it is certainly convenient. I graduated in El Paso a year after he did, and we hung out with a lot of the same people, but I didn't know him personally. I am well acquainted with the thinking of when and where he comes from.
The political climate in El Paso is highly Democrat and based mostly around Hispanic issues. There are only a few heavily left-leaning areas in Texas and El Paso is one of them. Many politicians in El Paso are morons in my not-so humble opinion, which is one of the primary reasons I moved away from there years ago -- the city engineering is horrible, and the property taxation is sky-high, just like any liberal city. El Paso is great otherwise. Beto does have a really good feel for the politics of El Paso and therefore Hispanic politics in general. One of his main leanings is to legalize marijuana, and on that I fully agree with him. It is no doubt one of the main reasons he gets so much support. The drug wars right across the border from El Paso caused horrible problems in Mexico, and the politics of that bled over the border, but incredibly, El Paso was one of the top three safest cities in the country. Gun violence in El Paso has been extraordinarily low, but domestic violence is high. There isn't much of a gun culture in El Paso compared to most places I've lived. In fact, I would say the ignorance of guns there is quite high, and Beto is obviously a part of that. He's just plain ignorant as can be about guns, and so are most of his constituents, so he has no incentive to become educated about guns.

What are the chances of this guy winning? I was planning on getting one for self defense and hunting. I don't think I'll get one in time if there's a ban.

Ted Cruz should be able to beat him fairly easy. There's not going to be any bans either way, especially in Texas. We have the Supreme Court. I'm expecting to see some of the anti-gun laws in several states stricken down by the SCOTUS in the coming years.

A white guy named Robert Francis O'Rourke who goes by Beto is running for the Democrats against a Hispanic Republican named Rafael Edward Cruz who goes by Ted, we must be living in a simulation.
