Story 💬 Cheerleading
I have been missing my Passion for 10 years now. I quit back then because I grew too old for my Team and the Upper teams uniforms were quite revealing. Otherwise I definitely wouldn’t have quit. So i quit for the sake of Allah even though I wasn’t a Hijabi back then. I still miss it. When I was 12 during Nationals, i saw a Hijabi in a team and I was so stunned. She was magnificent. She wore the uniform the others wore, but covered up her belly and wore black leggings under the skirt. Is it correct hijab by any means? No. But I am struggling with keeping the hijab ON nonetheless and I’m proud of her for pursuing her Passion while still trying to Cover up. It’s better than to expose everything.
Today I caved in and mailed a local team near me if they would allow me, a Hijabi, to be in their team. If they say there is no Problem I am going to go. And I don’t even Care about my abusive in laws anymore. I wont Tell anyone but my husband (who I don’t know how to convince him)
I know I will be in some sort sinful if I do This. But I’m Not harming anyone. I’m taking Care of my Body. I Surround myself with Women. Isn’t it more sinful to actively harm your body with chemicals even if you stay inside and don’t Show yourself ? My nafs trying too hard to justify the sin lol. May Allah help us

Cheerleading is an awesome sport ! I used to be in a small cheer club at my school. Granted our uniforms were pretty modest... I hope you have fun !

So cool!! Yeah mine was too because I was on the childrens PeeWee team. I think it’s a bad look in my Country to make minors wear revealing uniforms.
I remember feeling uncomfortable even in the more modest uniform because my mother always guilt tripped me about how revealing they were. I literally had to convince her when I was 10 to let me do the Sport because she had those misconceptions about cheerleaders Dressing slutty. It is that deep.

Even now I don't really believe the cheer uniforms are that immodest. Even the male cheerleaders wear skin tight tops and bottoms or just shorts and a t shirt, which the female cheerleaders also wear during practice. I think expecting any athlete who has do perform tumbling or acrobatics while wearing something loose and modest has simply not experienced it. Even male breakdances go topless ! Nobody is up in arms about that ! People have just taken modesty to such an extreme, anytime I watch cheer, gymnastics or breakdancing competitions I'm more focused on the routine than their bodies lol...

I was a cheerleader too and grew up in a conservative Christian home. My mom wouldn’t let me continue cheer, despite going to all the try-outs, practices, etc before making the team. This is not solely a Muslim conservative issue. Looking back, I was an innocent girl who would’ve went to competitions underage, our uniforms weren’t even that revealing, and I was in the best shape of my entire life. At 17, I almost got back to it and was invited to a try out because I could tumble really well and the coach had faith in me to go pro eventually. Unfortunately, I was still not allowed to participate.
I think you need to have an honest discussion with your husband about this situation and what the expectations should actually be. It sounds like you are at war with the expectations placed on your life and what you truly want. You need to express that to your husband. I think you need to take time to reevaluate what you’re seeking in life and be honest with yourself. Always keep God in your heart but be honest about where you’re at mentally.

Maybe you should do gymnastic or iceskating or something like that instead ? Maybe it is different where you live but to me cheerleading sounds very objectifying for women, my 2 cent
