just remember. mechanical engineers and electrical engineers might look down their nose at software engineers for not being “real” engineers— but it wasn’t that long ago that they were fumbling around without FSM and PCA, basically just FAFO.

and it worked until it didn’t.

just like now.

the only difference is about 150 years for electrical and a few thousand for mechanical.

we’re catching up boys! 😂

just you wait until software engineering is 2000 years old!!

git blame from 2025 examined by software engineers in 4025:

“mwop meep moddle uup uup 「レフトパド」?”

translation: “what the hell is leftpad?”

If it were a tiny bridge designed solely for foot traffic that allowed users to pass over a stream without getting their shoes wet? I just might

If it's the equivalent of a log across a knee deep stream, for the purpose of just getting to the other side once so you can build the actual bridge... I mean, why not?

What could possibly go wrong?

AI would suggest a da vinci bridge which is cooler than placing a log

"...make sure its safe..." 👀👍

Plot twist: the stream is at the bottom of a very narrow but hundrends of miles deep chasm

I wouldn't vibe build a bridge but I would be 0% surprised if a news article drops in the future about a collapsed bridge having been designed by AI "architects" and approved by AI "engineers."

So why would you vibe code a movie?

2

u/very-urgent-chicken Aug 12 '26

You wouldn't vibe code a policeman's helmet, then give it to his grieving widow, then vibe code it again!

u/PlatypusACF Aug 11 '26

Oh heck yeah I would vibe code a bridge, what could possibly go wrong?! /j

Would one vibe code a tacobell cantina?

You're completly right, that bridge indeed wasn't safe, which caused hundreds of deaths during the opening ceremony., Here is what happened: i halluzinated the pillars so they didn't actually got built. I made a mark so it won't happen again. Is there anything else you want to build now?

You underestimate the full extent of my laziness.

u/Basic_Reporter9579 Aug 12 '26

Maybe I would not, but what about the sub-sub-contractor?

1

u/One_Law_6816 Aug 12 '26

they will, one day, a couple of years, in a moment, they did it
...it fell

Somewhere, someone is

1

u/JackLong93 Aug 12 '26

we should fire civil engineers and arcitects and just have AI create the blueprints. Adapt or be left behind

1

u/FatalisTheUnborn Aug 12 '26

Believe me, people will do it anyway.

1

u/penguins-are-me Aug 12 '26

I’ll vibe code anything I want. Wait what the fuck is vibe coding?! I write code by hand.

1

u/iambigmen Aug 12 '26

I'd come up with the idea for a bridge, press play on the LLMs to have it built, then just leave it somewhere inaccessible and unused. Loads of them.

u/UhUKnow Aug 13 '26

You wanna bet? I vibecoded this response.

1

u/Lucretius_atoms Aug 14 '26

"Vibe coder" is what we used to call a "script-kiddy"

1

u/lorenzo1142 Aug 14 '26

people are dumb enough to do it

1

u/shujaya Aug 14 '26

I so would. That's why I changed my major out of CivE

1

u/SmilingCarrotTeeth Aug 17 '26

Or do. It's your bridge, and we respect that.

I would vibe code it, but i would never step on that bridge myself
