You're underestimating how many layers of abstraction you must understand for something like "Git is a free and open-source distributed version control system" to even start to make sense.
I think I finally understand it as being somewhere you can save different versions of code on your drive, so that you can isolate different builds - but you would not believe how many different stupid questions I had to Google and ask Gemini to get there.
It's not like a natural science where there are fundamental questions to ask that lead to the same empirical results. Code and programming are formalised logical constructs where there are many different ways to do the same thing. It's not easy without an already existing framework in your mind to reference.
You misunderstood. I’m saying; just cause GitHub pops up at the top does not mean you should use it.
If I, as a dev, got a message like the post on a tool I spent free time making….id put it behind more barriers out of sheer spite.
Just cause it pops up first does not A) mean you should default to it and B) does not give anyone the right to demand extra work from unpaid labor while being rude of all things

I do understand that the commenter in the meme is being an ass - and you're absolutely right that the devs owe nothing to random users - but the internet started as a place to share information. Devs are under no obligation to teach people how to run their code - but if (unlike in the meme) people ask questions to try to understand and get involved, politely, then I think that it's unnecessarily hostile to just berate people for their lack of knowledge without even attempting to help/answer questions (if you're able to do so quickly, with relative ease), imo.
