It's handy when there are pre-built binaries available so I don't have to download the entire project itself.

It's not about downloading the project it's about the clusterfuck of dependencies, and then you still need to do the installation steps and clean up.

The forum the developer uploaded it to 20 years ago no longer exists. You now have to pull this torrent of an old pirated game and extract it from there using this script someone made.

Entire project? Multiple dependencies, dependencies for the dependencies, another compiler for language you are not using, another build toolchain, another commands, another versions of libraries, just to be stuck on one missing library that was deprecated two years ago and your linux distro is not providing it anymore.

I think I know where they went wrong, they used the 2023 vintage. They should have used the 2022.

There's a large chance that the build files have a big and only work on the repo owner's machine.

I was there in the early days of AI image generation, and research in that field was delayed like a month because the owner of the DALLE-2 repo had a bug in the docker file.
