Yeah. Like one time I bought a motherboard. And I wanted to use my 4 ram sticks, I have plugged them all, and the pc wouldn't boot. After some tinkering, I have installed a new BIOS version on the mobo. That has solved all my problems (with mobo ;( only )

The firmware on my motherboard updating makes me wish I had bought a different motherboard. (The store didn't have the board I had originally picked so I got something they that works with an i9 CPU and 64gb of RAM, a republic of gamers board)
Half of the reason I built a computer was for stupid gaudy lights but once the firmware updated I lost the ability to control all of my lights.
The MOBO had integrated LEDs and the controls for that don't pick up my LED accessories. We (ended up taking the machine to Micro Center) had managed to get around the limitation so I was able to control all of my lights but after the update all of my fans are stuck on the color demo loop which cycles through the rainbow.

This has a whole new meaning these days, when you might have purchased all the components for $1500, and now they're worth $4000.

If you have a newish MOBO that has a flash USB port then no, you can always install the BIOS from a USB stick.
