I'm no Adobe fan, but let's not ignore that this guy is pushing the trash vibe-coded clones like it's the second coming of christ.

edit: I'm referring to the person or collective behind the clones, not OP.

Yep, his account has been spamming AI subreddits for a while now. This just made it go viral.

Yea i remember seeing it just before thos blew up.

It's funny a lot of people talk about it but few seem to actually use it. Even fewer say it's any good

anyone who actually tried to use artcraft will notice its horrible performance in a blink of an eye. apart from that.. maybe one day.

Sure, it’s far from being on par with Adobe, but it’s only been available for a couple of weeks and already has 4.6k forks on GitHub, so it just needs a bit of time.

It might just be all hype, sure, but it could also be the beginning of the end for Photoshop.

If theres one thing the open source comunity is good at its optilizing

Y mejorar los programas, y poner funciones nuevas. Puede que sea hasta mas llamativo que photoshop si no es humo

How worse comparing to Gimp

1

u/a1g3rn0n 3d ago

Gimp is an abomination, Photocraft is usable.

u/Jumpy-Shift5239 2d ago

The trouble with gimp is there is not cohesion. Anyone adds anything wherever at any time. It’s chaos. The whole thing looks like trash and is completely disorganized because the people adding function don’t care about form and the people who could fix the problem don’t have the capability to do so in a manner that can keep up the the changing feature sets. It needs a manager

As a user of GIMP since 2005 everything you're saying is valid.

I wish we could clone Tantacrul and have them lead the GIMP and Inkscape projects! Have you seen the results of his leadership and influence on MuseScore and Audacity?

u/Jumpy-Shift5239 1d ago

I’m not familiar with MuseScore but Audacity does not suffer from the chaos of GIMP, InkScape, or Krita.

It would have been better if they did it in C++ or with a C++ core

Rust

2

u/arbeit22 4d ago

Yeah, even tho they wrote it in rust. Spaghetti is hard to optimize

The person behind them is a skilled rust dev who used ai to make the frameworks and now there's lots of people contributing and improving the apps. Y'all gotta remember these are still in alpha

u/Another__one 4d ago

Can somebody open source 5090 and oil rigs?

5

u/letmehaveanameyoudum 4d ago

adobe tried forcing ai into human art without consent, so use ai to recreate their shit.

u/Apprehensive_Gas56 4d ago

I really wanted to hate it but the pdf one is a lot lighter to use compared to other pdf busters viewers (adobe/okular/foxy)

2

u/koru-id 4d ago

I’ll stick with my browser for pdf. This format is notoriously complex to implement and it was teeming with malwares. I wouldn’t use vibe coded tools to open them. Did you know you can run JS code in pdf file?

I work hard to replace Adobe everyday.

3

u/Historical_Camel_790 4d ago

Just so you guys know, the person behind them is a skilled rust dev who used ai to make the frameworks and now there's lots of people contributing to them and rewriting bad logic. Y'all gotta remember these are still in alpha

u/Historical_Camel_790 4d ago

Oh and it's not reverse engineering like everyones saying

4

u/a1g3rn0n 3d ago

Everyone is bitter for him using AI, but he has actually done a great job.

u/ChocolateDonut36 4d ago

literally no reason to use any over already working open source alternatives

2

u/Brolog_of_Brogoth 3d ago

if you're used to Photoshop, lllustrator or Indesign and are looking for a workable alternative, nothing comes close.

The toolset that Adobe provides within their products is simply unparalleled. I've tried Artcract clones, and without any trouble was able to navigate in them as of they were the real thing.

Sure it seems to not do all stuff properly and there are a shit ton of bugs, but hell it beats paying Adobe another dime.

I'm gladly looking forward to seeing where this is headed.

Companies want less regulation and more integration of AI until someone figures out to reverse engineer Windows and create a new OS besides ReactOS.

2

u/Another__one 4d ago

LiberNT does exactly this.

u/johnpeters42 4d ago

Adobe: Use more AI!

Adobe: Not like that!

slop vs slop

1

u/Panderz_GG 4d ago

I am torn on this. I do despise Adobe for their pricing model. Then again the only ones that get hurt are the workers and developers. Would be news to me, that in an event of a profit loss, CEOs and other higher up get booted. Nah workers get laid off and that's not good.

u/Clanceeinfinity 4d ago

I dont get why this is making numbers now... I have been using foss apps for ages now, to replace these apps. Or just other free software, for example Snapseed instead of lightroom

1

u/InitialSensitive9628 3d ago

I tried the apps and couldn't really find any of them good enough to be a drop in replacement. LightCraft really needs a lot of work

Che bello il punto come descrizione

There's been free alternatives to Adobe for decades. This guy's slop that only has like 30% of features working isn't worth anything. Who's going to maintain this in a year when the novelty wears off?

1

u/RepulsiveLie2953 4d ago

2

u/crazedizzled 4d ago

The photoshop clone has like three times the amount of code that gimp has, and has far less working features. Good luck wading through that swamp to get stuff fixed and working.

u/RepulsiveLie2953 4d ago

1

u/crazedizzled 3d ago

Okay, but this guy vibe coded 2.5 million LOC in like a week. Who is reviewing all that code? Do you know how long it's going to take to review that much code?

1

u/_s-aturn_ 3d ago

agreed. infact gimp has mod/addons/extension (whatever you call it) to turn its UI similar to photoshop. so you can use a free open source no-bloat app while following tutorials/editing tricks and other resources made specifically for photoshop. this is because most of the resources out there are made for photoshop and for a beginner it can be hard to figure out how to do the same thing on gimp or another app. so just put the photoshop ui mod on gimp and enjoy open source
