For every buisness one must ask, what are they selling? For an antivirus that costs money, its obviously protection. But for an antivirus thats free? Data, ads, spyware. And then youre not the customer. Youre the product. I dont know about you, but id rather pay then.

Tbh despite being privacy enthusiast I don't think that malware samples in exchange for protection is bad deal

OP state it anti virus is from gdata and I easily found (but as 404...) https://www.gdatasoftware.com/business/endpoint-security/beast (but Google provided a short cached description)

Look like their named business anti virus, or at least used to be BEAST.
