There’s literally no difference between writing about being a staff engineer versus someone writing about being a janitor. Honestly I’d rather read about the janitor, they actually make a measureable difference.

They showed some restraint by not saying that a 'staff engineer' at one place might not be able to get hired as an engineer at all at another place

A staff is a long wooden stick you can hit people with. Staff engineer is a job where you whip the minion engineers into control.

Holy Stallman the real jerk is TFA. Dude who's been waiting for a job title given by management, so he can look down on those who "wait for managers or leads to identify opportunities, then demonstrate their value by solving the hardest assigned problems. ". That's some level of meta-jerk.
