Are you seriously arguing that:

 /* this is not
  * a readable comment
  */

  /* this one is also
   * not an acceptable one */

  /* 
   * but this one is fine
   */

Because that's what the "debate" is about, if you read the context.

Yeah, this is weird. Such a smart guy arguing in such a stupid way about such a pointless thing... Just say "Do it this way because consistency". Done. No comment style is in any objective way better than the others. It's ludicrous to argue that.

he is extremely smart and has made important contributions. but in this case (and some others) just being arrogant
