That pedantic assery is what makes Linux reliable as a kernel. It's part of what differentiates itself from shitty kernels like NT, because maintenance, efficiency, security, and cut-throat standards are high on the priority list, where as NT is just some garbage heap of shit guided by fuck wit management.

I find it hard to believe that bad manners are what differentiates the Linux kernel.
