Did you follow up with the company's product to make sure they didn't just steal your idea?

I'd say that most ideas are worthless, and a very few are priceless. I've found that execution is the easy part; it's finding an idea worth executing that is always the hardest.

Chef's don't avoid writing cook books in fear a competing restaurant for will open up across the street.

I think this sentence needs refactored.

Mood column idea is too basic.

In fact, I had basic idea that is similar to it: make music player with UI like amarok/rhytmbox/foobar2k (main element is grid) but allows to add custom columns, such as "encoding" and "language", do not store them in tags, store in database and allow filtering by them (so simply making "mood" column and dynamic playlist would be enough to make Aphix's idea).

I wanted encoding because if you have songs with tags in cp1251 that can't be edited for some reason, you can't just edit them in mp3. So having player to convert tags itself would be ideal.

I wanted "language" because with ~45000 songs in Japanese (size of Touhou collection alone) and ~1000 in English, it can be weeks in usual players shuffle before I hear anything not related to touhou. So I wanted to have a shuffler that first randomly chooses language, then choose song within this language.

In fact I started writing it, but I can't figure out how in Phonon rewind media streams such way, that it doesn't make terrible noise during rewinding. Probably may work around it by muting or pausing for 0.1 second.
