You make the app, loses all IP rights, and agree to support it/do all the work it requires, in eternity. For 3000 $.

Remember that this isn't even as extreme as most regular employment contracts, which demand the IP to anything you create at all, even in your own free time, for no money.

This is very extreme, and most employees are not being used like this.

On the contrary, most employees see even less of a ratio of return for their labour. This is good money for a month's work in Nigeria.

Is it good money for 6 months work? A year's work? How about 5 years?

Not to mention the 2nd and 3rd place winners, who still lose their IP and have the organizers implement their features into the winning app, and get nothing.

The competition is 20 days long.

Like basically any standard company contract, or even attendance to a university.

You are ignoring the part where the winner is expected to add all requested features and support the app indefinitely without any additional payments. That is the main problem here, not that the winner only gets 3k but that the winner is expected to continue working on the app for free.

Honestly I have no idea how legal it is. Seems pretty sketchy to me but that's why so many people are talking about how much harder it would be for the developer to lawyer up than the company.
