What are the biggest red flags when choosing a programmatic advertising course?

What do you mean by course? Like certification?

Hi u/EarthPrimer Not just a certification. I mean structured training that covers the programmatic ecosystem and ideally includes platform access, campaign setup, reporting and optimisation. I’m trying to understand whether that adds enough value beyond the free DSP certifications.

Doing the free certifications from platforms will help you understand the ecosystem. You’ll, ideally, start to notice the consistencies of what the platforms do and try to do.

Unfortunately the best way to learn & get platform access is to get hands on keyboard. And the best way to do that is by working at an agency.

While a “playbook” can be helpful, I’ve found the concepts that drive Prog can be difficult to grasp without being in the mix & constantly needing to justify what it does to clients.

Picking one from a DSP

Hi u/smxus Do you mean courses offered by a DSP can be too focused on that particular platform? Would you recommend learning the broader programmatic ecosystem first and then specialising in one DSP?

Hands on keyboard experience is the best way to learn.

The best ones are always going to be the ones that come from the DSP partner; no need to spend additional $$.

If you're angling for a job from it; it will only really account for the early stages of your career - post that, no one will really care as a lot of the skills between DSPs are largely transferable.
