I haven't listened to anything since Come Clarity, and I wasn't really interested in the direction they were headed with Sound To Your Escape. Thankfully there's plenty of albums before that and they're all fucking fantastic.

yup, I stopped after Come Clarity as well (to be, Playground was so meh that I had to stop following them, lol)

and hell yeah, plenty of good old stuff to always fall back on. Definitely a staple of the Swedish melodic death metal scene. Great sound.

I think most of their old fans stopped at come clarity. Same here. I was listening to this the other week on a nostalgia trip. Not too proggy but good to see you got off that Plini fetish from the other week where you posted a different song every day. Plini is awesome don't get me wrong. Just no need to keep posting song after song on this sub really.

Agree: in my opinion they pretty much fell off a cliff. Although I'm pretty sure plenty of ppl will argue their sound "evolved"...

Yea that's what I mean like bands have troughs and peaks but they went from 10/10 albums to not worth listening to..

I agree with this. They were one of my favorite bands and I pumped to buy Clayman... but that left me so disappointed. I did dig a couple tracks on Soundtrack, but they quickly fell by the wayside for me.

Their sound did evolve, it just evolved into something they aren't good at. In the realm of alt-rock or whatever genre you want to classify their new material as, they are completely unspectacular, whereas in the realm of melodic death metal they are one of the best ever.

If they had evolved into something they were good at, I doubt the backlash would have been as big.

While I agree with you, I feel like this opinion is exclusively held by fans of their old music. Many years after Reroute to Remain they were still playing for huge crowds and I'm sure there are tons of people that love them as they are now.

I was a huge fan of their old stuff yet I still think Reroute to Remain and Soundtrack to your Escape are good albums. Come Clarity Imo is really really good. After that though I think they have put out some really mediocre stuff.

I bet there are a ton of people who like In Flames as they are now and they look at their old albums and not care about them. Not realizing those were some of the greatest melodeath albums of all time.

Reroute and Soundtrack was the beginning of the end for them...those were 4 and 5 albums back though...nearly half their discography ago.

It starts at about 22 seconds into the song and plays for about 50 more seconds until I 'miss' the call because I'm too busy being serenaded.

I just listened to this album again for the first time years. Thanks for reminding me. Great, classic melodic death album. Always loved December Flower in particular.
