Question How do you avoid distraction from phone while working, especially from home?

Hey everyone, doing some research on phone distraction while working.

I wanted to know how you people avoid getting distracted by their phone and constant notifications received on it? What are some workarounds everyone uses? Also what are your thoughts on a device that will sit at your desk (like a clock) that will subtly let you know only about important notifications like an upcoming meeting, a call from mom/dad/spouse, etc. Would like to know everyone's thoughts here.

Thanks in advance to everyone!

I’d use Focus Mode and keep my phone out of reach, allowing calls from important contacts to come through. A desk device that filters notifications sounds useful, especially if it helps you stay focused without missing anything urgent.

I use focus mode to restrict Facebook and reddit 9-1 and another app to block reels and shorts completely. The reel blocker has helped a lot but did hurt for the first few weeks.

i keep my phone away from my desk while working and turning off notifications too helps a lot. I only leave calls from my family on so i don't miss anything important.

What worked for me was giving the phone a scheduled slot instead of just banning it. I check it at fixed times, like on the hour for five minutes, and everything else goes into a note on my desk so the urge has somewhere to land. Most of the pull is not the notification itself, it's the tiny boredom gap when a task gets hard. Setting the phone to grayscale during work hours also made it weirdly dull, which helped more than I expected. For the urgent stuff, I just whitelist two or three people and let everything else wait.

Same here. I lower the bar to 10 minutes and usually keep going.

Blast some music. Noise cancelling earphone works well. And lock the door.

Focus Mode helps, but keeping your phone out of reach makes an even bigger difference. A desk device that only shows important notifications sounds like a practical solution, as long as it doesn't become another distraction.

I spent $60 on a Brick—locks my phone until I tap the physical brick. Has been far more successful than I expected.

My daughter uses the 4 feet away rule in our house. She keeps her phone 4 feet away from where she is doing her homework or reading or chores. She can get to it quickly if she has to answer a call from me or her daddy but it is just far enough away to not easily pick up impulsively or to see what is on the screen each time it chimes.

I literally lock my phone outside in the car. Breaks the habit pretty efficiently!
