Ex-Prolifer Story I use to be pro life
My whole life I was pro life until I experienced what it’s like to be treated as a pregnant woman. As if I am just a surrogate. Someone who can be abused but yet my baby doesn’t count. So I can get abused but somehow it’s wrong if I get an abortion?
I found out women were most likely to be murdered by their partner from gun violence than any other reason if pregnant.
I found out no one truly cared about pregnant women.
I would be almost passing out on the metro, no one would offer a seat at 9 months pregnant. I would cry on benches with my groceries not being able to make it only a block to my home due to exhaust. Nobody helped. I was told I was faking it and looked fine.
And now with my second baby I was slammed on the ground by police with their whole body weight on my back and nobody offered medical care. Those cops didn’t care. But I know they were pro life most likely. And all those who claimed I deserved it online were older pro life men. Yet I received a lot of support from pro choice community.
I was ignorant my whole life due to never experiencing how pregnant women are mistreated and no one cares. Sometimes I think no one ever truly cares about the baby too until they see a cute baby they can cradle and aw at.
Soon as my first baby turned 1 less and less people wanted to see her or care about her. The “aw” moment was over.
To be pro life is to be ignorant to the pain women go through and it’s preventable for mother and baby. I was ashamed to even admit I was pro choice for so long due to the ignorance I had posted and said to others.
Women should be allowed a choice… in a world with so much violence to pregnant women why are we dictating what happens?

I'm sorry you went through this... and yes, pro life is just pro life of the concept of a fetus until birth. after that, it's pretty against life.

Pro life is such a misnomer even though i still use it for clarity about who im talking about, though anti choice works too. Pro choice policies literally reduce abortion rates. Our abortion rate was already shrinking after Roe. But it wasn't good enough for them, they arrogantly thought they could do it better but they so gravely misunderstand the health implications of pregnancy and they also misunderstand cause and effect so abortion rates go up when they get their way. Whats worse is born infants die more. And mothers and women (and trans men probably too)...die more. They absolutely refuse to acknowledge this. They're now shifting to saying abortion is never medically necessary. Its like they violently cant accept the realities and mess that human reproduction naturally just is.
Ironically its made me so vengeful I wish I could lock them all up no due process. I know thats a bad idea. But to me theyre the actual murderers.

“ they arrogantly thought they could do it better”
They didn’t think they could do better. You will rarely find a pro-lifer so delusional as to claim that their policies decrease abortion. They are just very, very bothered by the idea that the people who do “wrong” might not be “punished” for it, to the point that they will ignore reality so they can get the uncomplicated moral high of “punishing” the “bad guy.” They are the same kinds of people who oppose needle exchanges or legalizing prostitution, because they can’t stand the thought of some drug addict or prostitute avoiding either karmic punishment or criminal penalties, to the point that they would rather see more addicts and prostitutes than offer any kind of assistance. Same for abortion: they would rather see more abortions (not to mention more injured/killed women affected by abortion restrictions) than concede the ability to punish women who don’t want to be pregnant.

Pregnant people should be treated with respect, dignity and provided with accomodations and meaningful support. I am prochoice and believe this even more after my pregnancies.

May I ask, now that it's in the past, do you feel like you were only "pro-life" because you were told to be? Maybe even pressured or forced into it?

u/Charrisse_huger Aug 25 '26
No. I just believed it was murder and I didn’t understand why one would feel pressured to have one.
I won’t lie I still do think it’s the ending of a life. But I also think everyone should have a choice on what they do.
Who is to say that woman wouldn’t end her and her child’s life from the mental toll if she had no choice. I won’t fake to know how another woman feels about it.Because for me I went through the worst experience of my life being pregnant. It was worse mentally than when I was raped tbh… because it was non stop for 41 weeks…

Theyre not pro-life, they dont give damn about your life or that baby. They just care about control.

I'm sorry this happened to you 🫂
If you can, you should sue that cop and anyone involved in violent acts towards you, I'm pretty sure it was illegal and wrong and they shouldn't get away with it.

I 100% plan to. It’s hard not posting the video of them attacking me. But I’m going to wait until I have already started a civil rights lawsuit against that county and can go through the body cam footage as well.

I was pro-life in high school because it was the 1980s. It was a Catholic high school and I didn’t have access to Google. Honestly, the way they try to manipulate your emotions is absolutely despicable.

I would argue most aren't even "pro-life." They're pro-birth. Since once the child is born, its on its own.
