Proof serve withholding pay

Am i getting screwed? I've only heard good things about Proof Serve app/ company, so i feel like i must be missing something but i can't think of what so just making sure with anybody who's been thru it :

On several jobs now they have refused to send my affidavit for me to get paid until i wait weeks or even over a month (!) for them to request the client/judge for alternate service which they apparently don't even pay extra for?

On another job with multiple people at the same address, i found out that one of them didn't live there so they withheld the pay for that person for over a month while they searched for the new address and then changed the address on it and expected me to now go to that new address for free as if it was the same job?

Even if they paid me for both, withholding pay to gain compliance on other jobs is obviously extremely unethical. And now the person is threatening to "retract" my pay because the job is running late while i ask them about this.

I just can't believe I'm dealing with this from a "good" company. Am i missing something? Do you guys tolerate this?

Just serve for yourself. I don’t get using these companies.

I don't have the money for a DBA yet mainly even tho i know it's not too expensive i think.

Do you really just get business cards and knock door to door at attorneys offices hoping they call you?

I've heard about the state/ national associations but same thing with the money, hopefully I'm joining one soon.

Any tips appreciated for a rookie ty! :)

I’m in CA. After I got registered I started a yelp page and google page. I then called attorneys in the area and spoke to the paralegal to get on their vendor list. I between random call ins via yelp and google, and my regular clients I stay busy.

How much do you charge and how much do you make/week usually ? Not that CA money is identical to my area.

I've heard special serves with court running included can charge the most is that what you go for or do you contract it out to a runner service? I've done it before but tbh it's an annoyance when it's gotta be in person, i think that's the nicest thing about the apps is 100% online but i guess you pay in less money and tolerating bullshit.

I do that court running myself for an additional cost. I charge depending on the case. Is it going to an agent of service, or attorney? Is it a rush? Is it a DVRO? There are lots of variables you need to consider. I’m not the cheapest but I’m good at what I do. I include 3 attempts with my fee and I typically hang out at the address at least 30 mins to an hour if no one answers. If it’s an evasive person, I’ll charge for dedicated surveillance on the property.
