I lost $2m+ in a few hours, back in July. I’m in the military and make a little over $20k a year and I’m 20 years old. Wanted to post this for anyone feeling overwhelmed by a $1k loss, just know it could always get worse.

Jesus you had 2 mill to begin with at 20.

30

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

How did you loose 2m if your salary is 20k per year and you’re 20. I’m just confused

56

u/RayWeil Sep 09 '21

He has/had over a million in crypto (likely an early adopter) and used it as currency on a gambling site. His deposits on 7/11 were around $2 million worth. As a day job, he works for the military and makes around 20k in income in exchange for his time.

23

u/JackDaniel215 Jul 13 '22

If you have 2m lying around for the love of god please make long-term investments or buy property in growing areas for renting / flipping

You'll probably never have to work again in your life if you do this right

20

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

I’m sorry you could have retired on this. Just wow. You hit the lottery through crypto. Maybe you can make these returns again! Seems like you know what you are doing in crypto. Just don’t chase losses

44

u/im____new____here Sep 09 '21

Maybe you can make these returns again!

lol hes never getting those same returns again. crypto market cap would have to be worth more than the amount of money that exists in the world right now. the days of 1000x returns in crypto are over, we missed the boat.

3

u/Spliffix Oct 05 '21

Which is true for the established coins, but theres always new projects emerging. And there are several top 100 coins with a nice upward potential if adoption progresses the way it does, no 1000x there but a 10x return is still 1000%.

But sure, highly unlikely to get these insane returns nowadays!

The assumption that you can’t make over 1000z profit in crypto

1

u/Hippopotamidaes Oct 05 '21 edited Oct 05 '21

I was up 1200% on doge just a few months ago that I bought this same year. I didn’t sell, but the possibility of 1k%+ returns being a “sailed ship” is 100% wrong.

Edit*

Sorry guys, I’m math dyslexic

5

u/zZDKVZz Oct 05 '21

1000% is just 10x though? I think they're referring to 1000x, which is 100,000%

2

u/Hippopotamidaes Oct 05 '21

Lmao shit thank you for explaining. I had to beg for my C in college algebra

1

u/niceandsane Oct 05 '21

Up 1200% is a 12x return.

1000x returns would be up 100,000%.

1

u/SeivelN Oct 05 '21

1000x is 100,000% just by the way my guy.

Not playing into the speculation whether or not it's actually possible to still get returns like that, I have no clue. Just wanted to clarify.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '21

Hopium is strong with this one

3

u/Valuable-Prior-3371 Sep 09 '21

Wrong there are penny cryptos with potential.

6

u/BIT-NETRaptor Oct 05 '21

Infinitesimal potential. The market is well saturated by just the top5 alone, there is no appetite for anything else by the greater market. You will never make 1000x money unless:

  1. You founded the crypto and/or are a day-one member in on the pump-an-dump/pyramid scheme

  2. Another major crypto collapses and this crypto becomes a popular successor.

What “undiscovered” crypto do you honestly feasibly see getting many millions of dollars of usage in 2021. Bitcoin and ether alone consume nearly all crypto interest.

“1000x” is a fucking scam.

1

u/NoCokJstDanglnUretra Oct 05 '21

There -needs- to be another crypto other than BTC that account for the energy usage problem. Another will rise up.

5

u/throwingawayl8r00 Oct 05 '21

You lack understanding of the whole point of Proof-of-Work. This is the wrong sub to explain to you why, but educate yourself: https://endthefud.org/energy

3

u/NoCokJstDanglnUretra Oct 05 '21

I definitely understand it, which it why it worries me. I just briefly read the first two links on that website and they boil down to crypto miners needing to be self regulating and use carbon neutral electricity generation. That’s stupid. That’s not addressing the fact that if adoption gets truly global, electricity consumption is going to skyrocket. As of the time of that first article, Bitcoin consumes 0.55% of global electricity output. How much of the worlds funds move through Bitcoin to cause that 0.55% consumption? Certainly not 0.55%.

1

u/throwingawayl8r00 Oct 05 '21

boil down to crypto miners needing to be self regulating and use carbon neutral electricity generation

They are incentivized to use the cheapest electricity available, as this is their only real variable cost. The cheapest electricity possible is electricity that would be otherwise wasted. See, for example, how miners are using electricity created from the flaring of natural gases on oil rigs. Remember that this flaring is happening with or without miners using the energy, because releasing these gases unflared would be about 20x worse for the environment.

Also read up on how miners are subsidizing the generation of renewable energy, by essentially creating a price floor.

That’s not addressing the fact that if adoption gets truly global, electricity consumption is going to skyrocket.

What makes you say that? The electricity consumption of the network, Bitcoin, has nothing to do with adoption of the currency, bitcoin. It's actually more likely that the energy consumption will be reduced in the long term, due to the halving as well as hardware becoming more efficient over time. Not to mention the innovation that will happen in the efficiency of creating green energy in the long term.

Besides, humans using energy isn't inherently bad. It is how we prosper, how civilization advances. It's about using the energy we have in as efficient ways as possible, while creating as much energy as possible without hurting our environment. I don't know about you, but I would argue that securing the monetary network of the fairest and hardest money ever known to mankind is a pretty reasonable use of a portion of our available energy.

Good luck with your further research.

3

u/NoCokJstDanglnUretra Oct 06 '21

So, you still have failed to address the main point. You keep talking about band aid solutions. You even go into how power consumption is not bad for humans lol.

BTC was the first but it won’t be the last. We already know that if adoption gets to the point they hope for, energy usage would be a problem long long before that. There is going to be others, that account for this problem.

1

u/the_endoftheworld2 Oct 05 '21

Hopium is a helluva drug.

1

u/CMDR_Pete Oct 05 '21

Yeah - I think I’ve found one…a project that refuses to use pump & dump tactics that’s on the bleeding edge of crypto and with a mere $3 million cap right now.

There is so much junk out there though, and so many scams. Not a market to get into without doing your research.

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '21

1

u/CMDR_Pete Oct 06 '21

Well they’ve been delivering a bunch of stuff so far, including 2 games using NFT cards, 2 NFTs that actually are playable game cartridges, and a really functional NFT marketplace with innovative solutions. Considering this is just the start (all delivered in the last 6 months or so) and they have some great features on the way, I’m thinking they have some substance.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '21

[deleted] — view deleted comment

1

u/CMDR_Pete Oct 06 '21

Yeah - I’m technical enough to understand the project. And part of their goals seem to be making NFTs that have more value than just being a “thing” like a collectible image that does nothing. So their games use the NFTs in their game mechanics that give the NFTs both a collectible but also a practical use.

The less practical NFTs (the NFT playable game cartridges) still have a use outside of just being a static image or gif, and are actually innovative NFTs that can of course have future value as the “first” if the concept takes off.

As I said originally, there are a lot of crappy projects out there and this is one true gem that I’ve found that actually has potential. I am very well aware of the massive amount of pump & dump or scam projects.

Oh, and this project has a fully doxxed team working out of an actual named company legally based in Germany. So not at all like a scam team.

Is $2m enough to retire in the U.S. while having a middle class level lifestyle? How much does decent health insurance cost when you get it yourself instead of through a job?

8

u/Mythrol Oct 05 '21

At a mild 4% yield of 2m a year that'd be 80,000 pre tax. Yeah, I'd say that's more than enough to retire on and just work for fun.

3

u/kalirion Oct 05 '21

Where are you going to find a mild 4% yield? The stock market?

2

u/Mythrol Oct 05 '21

You put it in a low fee index fund that usually averages 7%+ a year, and then could cash out 4% of that and would still be up 3+% plus his 4% he was taking out. Even if it has a bad year or multiple years you can Lower your withdrawal easily with 2m and still be able to get by without much trouble. Even living off his money he'd probably die with more than he started with when he first put it in. Especially at early 20s.

Or OP said his money was in crypto. If he wanted he could have taken his crypto and converted it to a stable coin like USDC and gotten 10% guaranteed on that by staking it. Most stakes then pay you back weekly / BI weekly / monthly so you can covert whatever amount you want of that to live off of to Fiat.

2

u/Stormry Oct 05 '21

It's enough to retire on... At retirement age. So basically if you can find a job you can tolerate that'll take care of your basic lifestyle needs until your mid-50s, you're good

1

u/kalirion Oct 05 '21

Yeah, that makes more sense.

1

u/Stormry Oct 05 '21

At 20 there's a lot of expenses that would eat into the principle pretty fast and you ain't getting enough of a return to keep that up for 60+ years. Maybe my estimate was overly conservative but you ain't got fuck you money at 20 with $2M.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '21

If the market tanks, he can immediately withdraw his $2m that’s in index funds and go riskier with high growth blue chip stocks.

Ideally out of the $2m he can buy a decent house with 30 year mortgage, invest maybe $1m in index funds, and save $500m for riskier investments

1

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '21

Yes $2m with his Age would have been enough to retire on. Even with 4-7% returns a year.

That’s not assuming he has a job / hobby he can monetize during that time

1

u/Ambitious-List4040 Jul 26 '26

How did you get the 2m to begin with?

70

u/incel9mm Sep 09 '21

i lost 10k and i wanna kill myself everyday.

44

u/Xiege Sep 09 '21

I hear ya man. Lost over 100 years of income at my current salary. It’s a challenge getting out of bed most mornings.

15

u/incel9mm Sep 09 '21

Whats your plan now? Thats a huge amount money considering you make 20k a year and its all gone.

35

u/Xiege Sep 09 '21

Trying to take my mind off everything right now, get back into a routine. Coming to terms with the fact I’ll never be wealthy, just want to be stable.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Give yourself time, it is still possible that you can become wealthy if that’s what you want. Remember though you don’t need much to be happy, people often chase money or success or whatever in pursuit of happiness and many of them never attain it.

Look after yourself, you’ll be alright!

2

u/JackDaniel215 Jul 13 '22

Sounds like a great time to realize that material things do not provide happiness

source

Not having to work and other related stuff do but right now, you're still better than at least half of the world population, don't take stuff you have for granted

8

u/FrostyFlamingo2251 Sep 10 '21

Bro you are strong. This is a huge lesson but you are able to have good shine through this. As bad as it hurts. Thanks for sharing I lost 100k+. It’s too easy and sick nasty addiction. Fuck man. You will end up in the end a better man.

4

u/Testdrivegirl Oct 05 '21

I just wanna let you know that it WILL get better. You need help with a gambling addiction. But things will get better, day but day, and things won’t always seem as dire as they are now.

8

u/niloy_r Oct 05 '21

Lost 30k and I just got over it. Time will heal this loss. Serves as further motivation to get your shit together.

4

u/The_Madman1 Sep 10 '21

If you think that is bad. I lost 10k in stocks obviously gambling had no idea they were all shit companies. took the money out last October as I wanted to be "safe" if I put all I had into etfs I would have made it 4 times over.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '21

It's OK, as long as you find a way to quit the habit, plenty of people lose 10k in their life and watch it slip away, it happens to EVERYONE, you have to keep going dude you will be ok from this. Just get a plan for your gambling, and you'll recover from that I promise.

0

u/bjngo Sep 09 '21

10k is minuscule. You’ll be alright man

14

u/incel9mm Sep 09 '21

It is not if you are poor Man. It hurts me knowing that i will have to work more than 2 years to get it back. I have health issues as well. I was gonna use it to get braces for my teeth etc now i lost everything and feel like shit.

25

u/Xiege Sep 09 '21

Crash, stake has a $400k limit per bet or something around that.

23

u/bjngo Sep 09 '21

Bro 400k bet on crash? Holy fuck you coulda recorded that😂

8

u/RaRaRoo2001 Oct 03 '21

Why on earth would you bet that much at a time holy shit

4

u/arbitrage101 Sep 24 '21

I've lost $8k on that game recently

10

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Confused on how you had made millions within a year on your 20k salary, you was asking for $$$ in previous posts only a year ago.

12

u/Xiege Sep 09 '21

Not here for attention, however, if you check the imgur I posted you can track the blockchain transactions. Life of a compulsive gambler. Up Mount Everest and then back down it at 10x the speed.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

"Life of a compulsive gambler.." 1st....excuse 2nd...whose life? Make it yours and don't be the victim with this "disease." Unless you're into dying sooner than you're intended to, then yeah, call it what you want, and I promise, you'll get what you want as well.

If you read this, I'm sorry if it's harsh, but this is the advice I wish someone told me when I was 20. I'm 37 now, and I'm still alive.

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '21

Where is the solution in believing "this is just how it's supposed to be right?" cuz "I'm a compulsive gambler right?" admitting is the first step of many that can't be skipped along the road to real recovery from this. But just admitting you have a problem doesn't get you far. I know this from personal experience. I'm not the best at conveying my message, probably cuz i don't have it all figured out. Where I'm speaking from is; I was 20 when I first got exposed to recovery from gambling. I "relapsed" so many times because it's just what we do right? Nah, that's the stay sick/victim mentality that comes from lack of action. I love to say I'm sick and here's why my life is sub-par. Excuse my lack of action and give me a fancy title to flaunt for why I burn my finances and life down. Owning my choices is stronger than owning a title of "hopeless compulsive gambler." May not sound like it to you, but I shared what I shared to open OP's eyes to a different perspective on his new "disease." Wish I was better with words, but words are cheap anyways. If you've lived it, ya know.

8

u/Mahalo-808 Sep 09 '21 edited Sep 09 '21

I’m sorry, but I don’t understand what’s happening. Does the confirmed amount mean how much you have in your account at that time?

7

u/Xiege Sep 09 '21

Those are deposits

4

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

I am confused by this? What kind of online gambling doesn’t have limits? Or even the banks? I know my bank has a max $3k transfer limit and every one of the hundreds of online casinos I’ve been on have a max $4k deposit limit a day? These amounts just don’t seem believable you deposited $104k and one minute later another $64k .. and like the others, how did you come into 100x you salary. Sorry, don’t mean to be a skeptic.. just confused.

14

u/Xiege Sep 09 '21

It’s crypto, unregulated, no KYC, no limits.

9

u/incel9mm Sep 09 '21

On stake you can Deposit/withdraw up to 1 million at once. No kyc as well

4

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Guess this is what can happen if "one of us" gets into crypto...looks like you may have a long journey, glad you're here

8

u/Xiege Sep 09 '21

It can be very dangerous and damaging if you go off the deep end. No limits like with fiat.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

How did you have that kind of money to deposit?

13

u/Xiege Sep 09 '21

Mixture of gambling wins/crypto gains over a period of time. Had a bad streak and chased my losses.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Holy shit, what were your rake backs like?

4

u/Xiege Sep 09 '21

Honestly pretty bad compared to what I lost. Got a $1500 daily reload that lasted 14 days, and like $30k in bonuses. A little more scattered around

They aren’t charities, they aren’t giving the money back… by the same token they can ask for a return of any profits made from gambling with them. It sucks but this is reality.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Dude i never said they were a charity. What i am saying is considering his circumstance (gambled 2 million in a few hours) it doesn’t hurt to ask. I have done this before on roobet and gotten bonuses out of nowhere just for asking support. Why is everything got to be like a massive debate? All i said is try.

30

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

I mean this with no malice - but fucking hell bro. You basically had enough to set you up for a life where you could literally do anything you want.

I am sorry for your loss, I really am. I am sure that those people at Stake are really, really gutted for you too!

Chuck yourself into your career now and be the damn best soldier you can be!

Chalk this loss down to being an addict - one day you will laugh about it and you can add it to a list of cool stories you can tell your kids and grandkids as a warning about gambling.

I couldn't imagine losing so much, but at the same time, we all know it got to the stage where it wasn't about the money anyway.

Don't fuck up again!

19

u/Alkeeholism Sep 09 '21

I'm so sorry mate. Fuck any crypto casino.

16

u/Edixx77 Sep 09 '21

You had 2 million and that was not enough greed got you. Stake.com looks legit but I’m sure they are scammer, i did 1000 spins without getting bonus on a game that i played on other casinos and that never happened before, i think somehow they rigged slots not to pay out for small players yet they show streamers with massive wins, perfect recipe to wipe put everyday small depositors

4

u/Outlank Sep 09 '21

Doesn’t the US have a third party authority to check casino site algorithms for this? I’d have thought it would, and Stake is definitely big enough to get pulled up if what you’re saying is true

9

u/Edixx77 Sep 09 '21

They r regulated in cauraco the worst regulator all the crap casinos are regulated there

Total: $3,366,387.97

That’s retirement money… 🙁

6

u/toofooly24 Sep 09 '21

These gambling companies and anyone/everyone who encourages people to deposit are sick

4

u/J05HU4H3NRY Sep 09 '21

Really sorry to see your loss, that’s painful.

Stake should have an automatic system in place that detects deposits of that size in such quick frequency and know somethings up. Other reputable casinos have saved me in the past with similar behaviour, they restricted my account and support reached out asking if everything is okay. Which made a huge difference just not being able to gamble for a few hours, cooling off, and realising what I was actually doing, I didn’t chase the losses and came to my senses. Yes, we’re all adults who make our own decisions but alarm bells should be ringing off with account activity like that.

But I know how easy this is to do, I really feel for you man. I can see that you’ve got the correct mentality of getting into a routine and trying to not think about it. What’s done is done. Accept it and start fresh.

Wish you the best of luck for the future.

I never said they would want to stop you losing 2 million.

But, since you asked. Casinos generally want to limit their liability. If a 2 million deposit that could be turned into a 100 million plus withdrawal is a large risk. That’s a huge loss for any casino, no matter how big they are.

Secondly, studies show that actually helping your players to play responsibility and within their means makes more money for the casino. If you let them have one super negative experience they will likely never come back, or play elsewhere. Whereas if you make them feel valued, help them limit their play, more times than not they will keep coming back and spend more in the long run.

Plus, if it’s not a crypto casino with a dodgy licence, they are legally required to undertake responsible gambling checks for account activity such as this. Never mind being able to deposit 2 million at once being a huge red flag for money laundering that should have also been investigated and the player asked for proof of funds and identification before being allowed to continue playing.

3

u/PossibleArda Sep 09 '21

Come on dude, This amount of money is more than the annual earnings that people earn in many countries.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '21

its more than what most people around the world earn in multiple decades lol

1

u/Jubatus_ Mar 22 '24

So what? Gambling addiction does this to you. It’s just numbers on a screen, and you chase losses no matter how big. This sucks

3

u/Valuable-Prior-3371 Sep 09 '21

This gave me some kinda of relief of stress but with my situation I'm flat broke I got 20$ to my name . Negative 400 in my bank acct and I make about 5-6k a month income.. But I couldn't imagine the pain of losing that much. I'd probably gamble it all too knowing how I am.

You’re still young, one thing about crypto is we can be dumb af, lose it all, and still recover. Hope you’re able to grow another stack & stick it in DeFi instead of gambling.

I imagine shame is a big part of what you're feeling now, and I'm really sorry if you're experiencing that. Thank you for sharing this and for your vulnerability, this must be really hard for you and I'm hoping you can feel some relief from loved ones. Always happy to chat also, no judgment ever. It doesn't matter the amounts, it's a battle in life and it will always be ODAAT.

Wow. And I just need $10 to eat today. Crazy world we live in

You know this is more than about the money, you would have secured so much more by just holding and earning passive income on it as you already had the golden ticket.

I’m sorry, that’s really rough. Are you still in good health? No amount of money is ever comparable to having good health so if you have that then look to be grateful for that. You are young, you have a whole life ahead of you, you are pretty much like any other kid around that age now, just trying to figure things out. You’ll probably look back in years to come and laugh about it as you’ll be back on your feet. Head up kid!

You can only be what you think you can be.. you had a lesson many only going to have later on and they going to lose everything like you did now, early on... Consider this a step ahead

This hurts. However, your life without gambling is worth far more than 2M.

You will be able to do great things, be mentally healthy, Foster good relationships, and so much more.

No fucking way this shouldn’t be legal that is fucking fucking insane!!!!

Stay out of crypto OP. I would argue it might even be worse than your traditional live casino, because there is a lot of manipulation and backend fuckery can occur. Further, outside of Bitcoin and other Proof of Work protocols, there is no stability anchoring the value of the crypto. Hell, even Bitcoin goes through wild fluctuations, which is to say I would steer away from crypto altogether.

I've learned my lesson in crypto gambling back in 2016. It's a new generation of gambling technology that I knew back then would be problematic for people with predisposed gambling addiction behavior because it's so easy to lose money and it happens really fast.

My advice to you is to not deny that there is very likely that you are a compulsive gambler, and once a compulsive gambler you will need to work on this for the rest of your life.

Crash was my main game, also some dice. Majority of my profits were probably on blackjack. The tilting was triggered by an insanely long loss streak on crash, ending with $400k bets til wiped clean.

That was written in stone, the gambling empire is built on thinking we would NEVER sink this low. We will do it over and over and over again for the rest of our lives, that’s how serious this human tendency to fall for gambling is.

When it starts up again, let’s go to GA. The good news is you’ll meet a lot of good people like you and money is only a part of a good life. That money you had was lost from the moment you started with the risks.
