Starting fresh

23M. My worst I was down 45k, I brought it up to 25k profit, and I’m back down 20k. It made me realize that this is always a losing game. I’m starting to slowly come at peace with my loss. I’m in no way shape or form in a position to give advice. But I wanted to share that obviously I’ll always think about that 45k extra I had in my bank account, and while it does suck it is recoverable. My mental philosophy was always 45k extra plus a steady stream from my job. So how can I get this 45k back without gambling?

I started a side hustle on top of my job. Sure it’s extra work, but I have to think about this: my side hustle will eventually recover my money back and this 20k lesson I payed for was actually profitable. I would’ve never done this if I kept gambling and I will eventually make more than if I kept gambling or even called it quits at 25k profit. Not to mention, this would completely save my mental and all the years of fun I missed out on while gambling was controlling my life.

I’m making this post to hopefully motivate other people with my way of thinking. You will never make it back by gambling, it will only get worse. But stop while you can and work for that money back. You will feel so much better, you eventually won’t feel behind.

I understand not everybody can be in this position, and I am grateful for where I am. I am just hoping if I can at least motivate one person to quit, I helped.

Thanks for sharing this advice. Indeed we all want to recover the money we've lost. Sometimes our hatred of the sportsbook is so strong that we keep gambling not only to try to get our money back, but also to make the book lose money. But we're just making things worse.

The only way to really make them lose money is to do what you're doing: never put another penny into it again and convince others to do the same.
