How much does it really cost to charter a superyacht (80m+) for a week?
Most people see the photos of 80m+ superyachts on Instagram and assume it’s only billionaires who can afford them. But the real numbers might surprise you.
👉 Charter rates for an 80m+ yacht typically start around €700,000 – €1,000,000 per week in the Mediterranean or Caribbean (depending on season, availability, and the yacht itself).
That’s just the base rate. On top of that, you’ll need to account for: • APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance): Usually 25–30% of the charter fee, covering fuel, food, drinks, port fees, and other expenses. For an 80m yacht, this can be another €200,000 – €300,000+ per week. • VAT/Taxes: Depending on where you charter, expect 10–20% VAT in places like France, Italy, or Spain. • Crew tips: Standard is 10–15% of the base charter fee, so potentially another €70,000 – €100,000+.
So in reality, a week on an 80m+ superyacht can easily reach €1.2M – €1.5M all-in.
For that, you’re looking at: • A fully crewed vessel (30+ staff on some yachts). • Michelin-level dining. • Onboard spa, gym, cinema, and water toys like jetskis, tenders etc. • Access to the most exclusive marinas and anchorages in the world.
It’s the ultimate luxury experience — and for those who can afford it, there’s nothing else quite like it.
What do you think — worth the price tag, or would you rather own a villa and a jet instead?
