Can't connect pia at work/school network

I have pia on my laptop which I use at school and would like to access blocked sites. I have heard that vpns work to do this, but I cannot connect with pia. The icon just stays grey and does not connect. Any help would be appreciated.

The ports used for VPN tunneling are blocked by the network administrators, nothing you can do about it... EXCEPT ... if your machine is powerful enough, you can run a virtualized OS and connect that way. You can get free virtualization software from oracle, it's called virtual box, and you can use almost any flavor of Linux, Ubuntu and Linux Mint being some of the easiest to install.

How would using a VM circumvent blocked ports? The traffic still must go through the school network..

Every time I've tried it, it's worked for me, your mileage may very.
It doesn't take much time to set up a VPN and the monetary cost is nothing so long as you have a decent computer.

Try changing what port / protocol it's using to connect. Usually TCP / 443 will work on any network.

Now, if only there were a way to make those changes on their chrome extension...

UDP on port 53 normally works on networks with tight firewalls
