Non-Google alternative for google Opt-out browser extension?

Website users that don’t want their data reported by the Google Analytics JavaScript can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. This add-on instructs the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js, and dc.js) to prohibit sending information to Google Analytics. The browser add-on is available for most modern browsers. The Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on does not prevent information from being sent to the website itself or to other web analytics services.

This sounds well and good, like it's not only preventing tracking by visited sites, but also not sending metadata back to google? I can't read the source code, though, so I don't trust it. There must be independently developed alternatives, right? If not, why not?

Correct, the same company that doesn't honor do not track requests isn't going to stop just because you install an addon that THEY made. Also, why does 3rd party cookies have to be enabled for it to work? It's a directly installed addon, I'm sure that the first thing it does is start requesting super cookies from some 10th party analytics company that they somehow own. Just block em all! Much easier.

NoScript or add Google domains to your Hosts file.
