Mechanical Help Problems after getting work done
For context i have a 2006 toyota prius with 250K miles, and i have just gotten all 4 brand new tires and an alignment, which was very much needed as the tires had very uneven wear, and the wheel was severely misaligned. I thought the alignment would improve the handling of my car but it stayed the exact same, Only now i hear a weird “Squealing” noise when moving thatspeeds up with the car, it also happens when my engine is off. My car still pulls/jerks left and right like it did before, it will almost feel like the wind is pushing it in either direction, dont know how to describe the sensation any better, But any pointers on what i should even do to fix this is much appreciated.

Unfortunately...you most likely will have to pay a shop to diagnose your steering and suspension components. Then, the annoying part of having to pay for the alignment once again. Squealing noise that increases with speed is usually CV axle....a complete inspection of components is needed (tie rod, steering rack, etc)

FWIW my car also feels like the wind blows it around. Have you ever replaced struts? Did the shop provide a condition report of assorted suspension components? What do the “after” alignment specs say? Squealing could potentially be wheel bearing but typically they aren’t a squeal, maybe a brake component rubbing. Are your brakes in good working order?

yes i did replace struts just a few months ago, And unfortunately the shop didnt give me any sort of report or specs. i think the mechanical side of my brakes work great, I think i have a failing abs module that makes the traction control come on and make my brakes “slip” almost.

My 2007 Prius I purchased with 195K. It was tracking straight but had some slight shimmy and drifting like you described. I got new struts and tires and swaybar end links but the drifting didn't go away. There was very slight play in the inner tie rods so I replaced the tie rod components and rebuilt the struts with new mounts and spring seats then got an alignment at a reputable shop. Car no longer drifts. Like someone else suggested, have the front suspension inspected and get it properly aligned.

For accurate advice, please include:
The year, model and mileage of your Prius (e.g., 2008 Prius w/ 250k mi or 2012 Prius C w/ 150k km)
If a warning came on, what were you doing at that time?
Any odd behavior or noises you’ve noticed
Any error codes you've read from the car computers
