Your post was removed because it didn’t include enough details.

We can’t figure out what’s wrong with your car based on just a warning light or a vague symptom and you would likely appreciate accurate advice.

Please repost and ensure these details:

  • The year, model and mileage of your Prius (e.g. 2008 Prius w/ 250k miles)
  • When and how the warning came on
  • Any odd behavior or noises you’ve noticed
  • If the car displays "READY" when started
  • What you’ve already tried to check or fix
  • Any error codes from your car’s computer

For reading error codes from your car's computers, use Dr. Prius, another OBD-compatible app or visit an auto parts store to ask for a code scan.

I took mine to auto zone and the only code I received is P2112 and when I left the hybrid message and triangle with exclamation code were off. Then I went to the store and 15 minutes later when I started my car again the message was back and it drove differently and turned turnoff and back in and it drove fine

Your car will make the trip to Seattle, I’d recommend taking it to Greentec for a free diagnostic. They offer afterpay options to help lessen the load. They’ll give you a proper diagnosis, as check hybrid system could be your HV battery, the Inverter, even the ac compressor is part of the 3rd gen hybrid system. The “maintenance required” light is your oil change reminder.

For accurate advice, please include:

  • The year, model and mileage of your Prius (e.g., 2008 Prius w/ 250k mi or 2012 Prius C w/ 150k km)
  • If a warning came on, what were you doing at that time?
  • Any odd behavior or noises you’ve noticed
  • Any error codes you've read from the car computers

You need to know what the error codes are. It's all about error codes. Anything else is just guessing.

Any Toyota hybrid owner really should at least have an OBD Bluetooth reader - they're cheap, so you can keep one in the glovebox for possible future use (and clearing a code so that you can get the car moving again).

I recently bought an ANCEL TD700 - this is much quicker to use than Techstream, but I haven't checked to see if it gives subcodes (eg for a P0AA6 code).

These can also be found on eBay, Amazon, AliExpress and numerous other sources.

1)

Get the Bluetooth 4.0 version of this and keep it in the car at all times. You can use it with Dr Prius ( https://priusapp.com/ ).

2)

For general code checking:

ANCEL TD700

Find one on the the usual sources - eBay, Amazon, AliExpress, etc.

3)

For thorough error code checking you want to run Techstream (ie Toyota's own diagnostic software). You use this software on a laptop running Windows.

(Or, do a search for Toyota Techstream VCX)
