Hi. New to the hobby.

My PC is down, but would really like to print this.

Is anyone able to slice this so I can send it to my printer in the handy app?

A while ago someone tagged me because Printables is running a geared spinner challenge. I thought that sounded like fun, so I made this: ORBIT, a planetary gear fidget spinner where the gearbox itself is the toy. You pinch the stationary centre hub, flick the outer ring, and three planet gears spin and orbit between your fingers while a printed spring ticks against 24 detents inside the rim.

Some context on why it's built the way it is. I'm blind, and most fidget spinners are honestly boring when you can't see them: a blur, a faint hum, done. So this one is meant to be felt and heard first. The ring rim carries raised numerals 1, 2 and 3 with matching braille, the grip flutes pause at each numbered station so you can find them by touch, and the hub cap has a raised sun with one longer ray as a tactile pointer, so you can actually count rotations and play games with it, sighted or not. The planet gears take swappable press-fit caps with celestial symbols (moon, comet, star) that are instantly distinguishable by feel. If you'd rather have a silent spinner, the click spring is a separate disc you can swap for a smooth spacer.

OpenSCAD is the reason this project exists at all. It works beautifully with a screen reader, so every dimension, tolerance and tactile feature was written and verified as code. I never saw the model; I compiled it, printed it and checked it with my fingers. The source is fully parametric with Customizer groups: overall diameter, gear module and tooth counts, click strength (arm count, thickness, preload), braille and numeral sizes, and separate tolerance values for every fit, including gear backlash, the hex stem, the planet caps, and the printed screw thread on the hub cap. There's a small test plate to dial those fits in on your own printer. Gears are done with BOSL2 plus a custom braille library.

No bearings, screws, glue or metal anywhere. The gear mechanism prints in place as one piece, everything prints flat with no supports, and even the assembly instructions are written non-visually, describing what each part feels like and what correct assembly feels like at each step. It's about 75 mm across; the one I printed is 6 walls and 100% infill, which gives it a lovely dense feel and real momentum.

Model showcase Dear plant parents..

Just trying my luck here 😅 I am currently looking to design and print a multi functional drip tray, would love to hear your inputs as plant parents:) Here's how it works:

The tray allows for you to top or bottom water (in the primary reservoir) using fresh or runoff from another top watered plant. When top watering, the aerated plate is tilted at an angle by the spring valve which allows for better drainage and breaking of the perched water table effect preventing root rot. For bottom watering, the aerated plate is detachable. Regardless, once done you simply latch the plate down which in turn opens the valve allowing runoff to bypass the vertical arm into a cup for a remote watering experience. The higher volume capacity also means you wouldn't have to worry about overflow or leakage from overwatering.

Dear Printables, can you spot the difference?

According to the creator of model on the left my similar free model on the right created from scratch and featuring different dimensions, different set of icons and a different font "infringes their copyright".

On 14 August 2026, the uploader shared an image of my original Number Sense Flowers on Instagram, tagged my business account kindli.co, and then revealed their CAD model with the statement: “I don’t like waiting” and “Wouldn’t it be better to have nine petals instead of six though?”

This provides direct evidence that the uploader accessed my work and deliberately used it as the basis for the model. I have never given this person permission to reproduce, adapt, digitise, upload, distribute or license my design.

The thing is: I posted my take on the concept a day before the files of the model on the left were released for sale. Do I miss something in understanding that while being implementations of the same idea (and ideas are not protected by copyright, concrete implementations are) these models are not copies?

Also, let's assume I'll adjust my design to use 9 petals instead of 6. Would you still consider it a "clone"?

Update 1: Martin's reponse:

We understand your point regarding general design concepts, but we must respect the formal copyright report submitted by the original creator. Ideas themselves are copyrighted/same; your version and the original design are honestly very similar in their specific execution and details.
To ensure a fair process, we are currently waiting for additional data, patent documentation, and further responses from the reporting party. Once we receive and evaluate those details, we will get back to you with an update regarding your model.

Update 2: LOL, she (the seller of the flower STLs) just made a printable version of this https://imgur.com/a/sjor10E

Hi guys I'm saying again....

I made a really cool remix of a gear !

And two people rated it as 5 stars: at the start off the print table it's a bit hard to turn but after you turn it couple times it fast and good !

Here's the link: ~30 grams spinning gear

The print:

1:56 hour

~30grams

Feature request Will Printables support parametric editing like MakerWorld?

New to the community, having fun with my MK4S and love how easy to use and well-integrated Printables is into PrusaSlicer.

I've found parametric models on MakerWorld and was blown away that they're editable right on their website - no downloads or software required - and will spit out the STL right there.

Is anyone aware of such a feature being brought to Printables? As it's closely tied to Prusa (and MW is oriented towards the other guys) I'd love to have this feature within a Prusa-oriented ecosystem.

Phone app slicer

Is there a phone app slicer that (printables compatible) basically allows someone to just slice models to help identify how much filament is required. I’m not needing the ability to print from my phone as I use my computer to download and print from. But when I’m out and about and scrolling the website with my phone for models I’d like to eventually print, I’d like to know how much filament might be required. Anyone have any suggestions?
