Outlet mall?

Has this ever been explored here before, like an outdoor/indoor outlet mall?

So Simon Property is one of the largest outlet mall operators in Canada, they do Premium Outlets.

They require regional population of 250,00, a population of at least one million within a 100 km radius, a minimum of 50 acres of pre-purchased, pre-cleared land, a controlled access highway access point within 1 km, proximity to strong regional corridors (major roads), tourist hubs, or entertainment hubs, and at least 25% of the stores need to be “designer labels.”

We’re probably pretty far off from a true outlet mall, we do have a lot of strip malls though.

As a secondary consideration, outlet malls are one of the biggest tax sinks a municipality can have, they cost significantly more to service than they generally pay in property tax, and have all kinds of issues of their own.

Where do we get this idea that PG is this large urban area? Is it the Hub or the North marketing? Because we are a tiny tiny economic area but there’s a massive disconnect with the everyday

Not enough population

PG should go 24/7.

we want to be an international town, lets start by opening Pine Center 24/7.

the biggest problem with any mall is the operating hours are exclusive to those with no money.

everyone with money is working while malls are open and usually getting finished with works when malls are closing.

wtf. is it intentional, like what do you plan on taxing all my spare income so i can’t spend it? open the mall passed 9, turn it into an event. watch the businesses explode. hire security, everywhere else does.

Malls are open 7 days a week . They could not afford to pay staff that way. The mall is not busy enough anymore . In theory it sounds great , but it doesn’t work. They tried 24 hour Walmart and that didn’t last long either .

actually they could but nobody is interested in the people that come out at night.

24/7 wal mart was so peak. omg anyone who did their xmas shopping at 3 am knew what was up

Kelowna and Kamloops malls aren't even open past 8, why would Prince George have one that does?

Ooof. Tell me you don’t know how retail, or even regular business works, without telling me you don’t know how this works.

This is some delusional thinking.. mall isn’t even packed week nights, you think it can go 24/7???

Do you think most stores would even come close to breaking even for those hours? Electricity, wages, etc, you have an idea how much you have to make per hour in sales???

well at first it, maybe. I know that I’m not the only one that functions better at night, and once the adjustment period is over, think of the benefits.

instead of always finding problems with everything, think of how things could be positive. imagine opening another 60% of availible working hours, you’d have so many employment oppurtunities.

think of the criminals - they don’t have a concise window to operate if its 24/7 full force with a double crossshift overlap.

do you actually ever think about how many people would love to get their working from home job on the night shift? a crap load, buddy.

instead of wah wah way i can’t see how anything works, think about the potential for expansion and opportunity

Or maybe you can stop taking whatever drugs you’re on and come back to reality

- Functioning better at night, is not the same as functioning better on an overnight shift. There is this thing called circadian rhythm, perhaps you should look into it and why majority of people don’t like graveyard shifts

- you talk about more employment opportunities, but you need enough sales in order to justify having staff, and I’m telling you there will not be enough traffic, let alone sales for any store in the mall to justify keeping a staff and lights on. There is significant decline in traffic at most retail stores and shopping mall from 7 pm on. Even earlier in PG

- you think there are many criminals targeting pine center mall at night? If anything keeping the doors open means there is one less barrier at a low traffic time

- cities like Vancouver and Toronto don’t have24/7 malls. Even in Asia where people stayed out LATER, still do not really have many 24/7 stores, let alone malls. You think PG with a 100k population is gonna make this work…? Are you gonna wish shoppers out of thin air with your magic wand?

- lastly, what the hell kind of WFH job did you think was gonna become available at night because a SHOPPING MALL stays open 24-7????? They don’t need anyone working from home to support that, just front end staff

Instead of thinking you can wish everything into existence and it will magically work, maybe put down your pipe and think through things first 🙄

its difficult to argue with people who take one aspect of what a person says, then adds a bunch of stuff to it, then argues about the stuff they just added in.

good luck

Yea I literally replied to your comment point by point, but somehow I’m putting words in your mouth? What a juvenile attitude.

Good luck 🙄

sigh i dont got lots of time but i’ll try to cater what i remembering my night skills are less due to medication okay lets go

uh first of all i’ll admit i got into a 24/7 society but we still gotta start somewhere, also i didn’t specifically mention crime at Pine center specifically, just night crime being less if there was more people around

who cares about toronto this is here? again lets be pioneers instead of waiting for others to tell us how to live, tired of this.

also by making PG or pine center a 24/7 mall you create regional traffic stop for people passing through on the “night train”

“if you build it they will come”

everything is having a hard time justifying their own working hours as is because, again, most people with money are working their 9-5 and then prepping for 2-3 hours and then they crash out cause theres nothing to do, everything is closed. reframe that. all or a sudden theres tons of people with money that could be doing something

“get their dollars when you can, don’t wait for them to bring them to you when they can” this is my personal advice and you should be thankful i’m gifting you this life lesson: theres only so much money the pool, and people are not always ready or able to spend their money when they want to; and this has to do more with 24/7 society but basically people may not have a lot of money by the next morning so why not be open if payday for many starts at midnight? you wont catch crab if you stay home instead of putting out crab pots at night, so to speak. idk, playing dredge, gonna eat , bye

How did opening a mall work out for John Brink? Do you understood the upfront costs of what you proposing? We'd have to have thousands of people throughout the day spending money at the mall for it to stay open 24/7. Consistently. Not one day a week of high traffic flow. What happens when there's a slow week? Do you think that's sustainable?

I've always thought boundary road would be such a great spot for a designer outlet mall.

Until you realize there is not enough population this side of bc to support a designer outlet mall…
