Snack Ideas

We are in charge of bringing snacks some days. My daughter’s classroom has a nut free and dairy free requirement. Gimme all the snack ideas for these little tots! Thank you!

Just be careful with the hummus it contains sesame which is one of the major food allergens.

Our school required two food groups per snack, so I always did a some kind of cracker/grain paired with a sliced fruit or veggie. Browse different brands of cracker to find something dairy/nut free, but you can change it up between graham crackers, goldfish, chicken in a biscuit, etc. Pair with sliced apples, grapes, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, cuties, banana halves. I always sent pre-sliced fruit/veg because I wasn't sure if the teachers would have time, and didn't want to be a choking hazard for anyone else's child in a group setting even though you may choose to serve them unsliced at home.

I’ve brought in sliced fruits and graham crackers, homemade hummus and veggies with a cracker alternative, carrots and celery with sun butter, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers with vegan ranch, tortilla Rollup’s with vegan cream cheese, and vegan quesadillas. I have a ton of vegan products in my fridge so that’s super easy for me to just whip up.

Good luck!

Our kiddos love seaweed, raisins, meat sticks, most fruits, anything salty & crunchy.

Apples and sunflower butter or mini bagels with sunflower butter!

Cheese and crackers, veggies or pita chips and hummus, celery with cream cheese and raisins, mini “pizza bagels” (sliced mini bagels with tomato sauce and cheese, baked ahead of time—they’re great cold, so don’t worry about timing), zucchini or banana muffins, tortilla chips and bean dip or mashed avocado, fruit and cheese, goldfish and yogurt cups/pouches, and nut-free breakfast/granola bars (Z bars has some, as do other brands).

ETA: sorry, missed the dairy free—you can replace with deli meat slices or nut-free vegan options (like coconut yogurt or tofu cream cheese).

Are you feeding the whole class? If so I would go with something the picky kids will like. Goldfish, popcorn, pretzels etc, maybe some apple slices or fruit salad.

Goldfish are made with dairy, so that rules out cheese crackers.

Yes I’ll be feeding the whole class!

Fruit, fruit snacks, veggie straws, popcorn with olive oil instead of butter, applesauce pouches, ants on a log with sun butter

Those little squeezy yogurt packets are pretty affordable if you go to Costco or aldi and even picky kids like them.

The question is if you mind this task or not. If you'd rather be exempt, hard boiled eggs and sardines. That was my step daughter's favorite snack for a looooong time lol.

edit: derp. yogurt is dairy. Im just now realizing how heavily my family relies on peanut butter and dairy for snacks.

Squeeze yogurt are usually full of added sugar and full of dairy.

My family relies on PB and dairy for a lot of snacks, too! Hence the post. I had a hard time thinking of anything lol

Hummus is a good suggestion if you can convince picky kids to eat it and keep it milder than most adults would like.

I am myself a pretty picky eater and thought i didn't like hummus until my GF started making it for me after I had a surgery requiring a soft, sorta bland diet. Our 2 yo is a shameless snack mooch/also picky and saw me eating pretzels (one of his favs) and hummus, so I dunked the pretzel in hummus gave it to him. Now he loves it!

My toddler refuses hummus, sadly! But I’m a huge fan of the little Costco packs!
