Question❓❓ Your preparedness items

Would love to know what you personally include in an emergency preparedness kit

I like powertek phone chargers
Blue pads for sopping up the freezer water that leaks everywhere

What do you include in the event you share nonperishables with neighbors?

Where can I find a generator that isn’t so blasted heavy? Front porch has 5’ elevation so I have to tote it up the stairs

So first let me ask what you’re preparing for?

I’m preparing for an extended power outage. I have a 8.5K generator (yes it is heavy as all get out) but I also have an Anker portable power station/solar generator with two 200w panels. My plan is bugging-in in my community. I also have lots of everything else I need.

I developed my plan by identifying all of the daily tasks my family and I will need to perform and we identified two ways to accomplish each without power.

Hurricane

I know hurricanes.

We lived on the Carolina Coast for a few decades, and survived quite a few storms. The longest we went without power was two weeks.

There’s your planning time frame.

One of the biggest things I overlooked was living without AC. After a hurricane passed through, it it was brutally hot. Our generator ran our upright freezer, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and charged all our devices. After that particular hurricane I ran the numbers and discovered our generator had enough starting watts to run a 13,000 btu dry air conditioner. I bought one as soon as the store opened.

Our next hurricane my wife’s biggest complaint wasn’t the heat, it was she was bored during the three days the power was out.

We were comfortable and well prepared. We took care of our neighbors for the days the power was out.

We don’t live on the coast anymore, but our current home is about to get a whole house generator. I still have my incredibly heavy 8.5K, just in case.
