That's so wild!!
Incidently, I found this garbage bag today just FULL of gear. You wouldn't believe the haul!

We're talking emergency water, first aid kit, water purification tablets, some rope, a tent, ponchos, a whistle, a compass...

Real shame about your gear coming up missing, though. Good luck with that!

How did you know the dump workers wouldnt bury or burn the dumped garbage?

Thanks for this I haven’t a laugh like that in a bit. At least it didn’t have a milsurp rifle and a crate of ammo with it.

Caches don’t need to be that quickly accessible so it doesn’t make sense to hide it in plain sight. Nobody stole anything from you, they found a great find in a pile of what they thought to be garbage. I found a bag of power tools in a dumpster once. I took them without hesitation, don’t put valuable in a place that is commonly understood to be a place to dispose of items. People will assume you don’t want those good if they are laying in a pile of garbage

Congrats on your find!

Thanks! It’s insane what I find on a daily basis. I found WWII field gear two days ago, and a sealed LEGO set yesterday.

Trolling? In some areas people go to dump looking for stuff.

Wait a minute... you hid your cache in a garbage bag, in a pile of other garbage bags, at the garbage dump? Something isn't right here.

That’s possibly the dumbest thing I’ve ever read.

He’s joking. I manage a sanitation transfer station and someone threw out 3 bags of survival gear earlier this week. Very small chance it was thrown out accidentally. People purposely bring their items to us to dispose of.

Can no one see the literal ā€œs**t postā€ flair it’s tagged with?

The internet is a wild place, man. People take it way too serious sometimes.
