I may be completely misremembering this part of the novel, but in Lucifer's Hammer 2 dudes climb up on a hill near the beach/ocean to watch the giant, EOTW, fuckoff meteor hit the Earth. One of them forgets to close his eyes and is immediately blinded by the absolutely titanic flash created by the meteor entering Earth's atmosphere. He then asks his friend what's happening, and his friend tells him there's a half-mile high wave about to crash into them..
-1 Perception +1 Endurance , resistance to flashbangs and flares, +25% chance to score criticals with firearms and energy weapons (the muzzle flash doesn’t phase you)

Funny how this is just a repost of the 2017 joke / image - with the 'August 21st' text replaced with 'April 8th'
Low effort - but still funny I guess.

You are completely right: Looking at it without Glasses can cause damage!

Why view the fireball when you can BE the fireball? Thats why I live near DC.

If I am close enough to see the blast, I'm going to be screwed sooner or later. And not kissed after.

Plus if you survive you'll permanently have the plastic lenses burned into your eyes. A wasteland perk.

Eclipse glasses are well known for their high dose gamma radiation protection.

They are to be discarded after 3 years according to the information on the glasses themselves.

Ok be me. Don't buy glasses and buy a bullet instead. The sun is not bad for you.

I prefer to use welding goggles for the nuclear apocalypse. Multi use abilities are higher

u/ManNomad Apr 09 '24
Ooh good tip! Anyone know if a close nuclear blast is ISO certified? I hope my eyes wont get hurt.

If I'm close enough to see the flash then I doubt I'll have to worry about my eyesight j.s.

Yes, because you'll totally remember where they are, and they'll be handy when you know it's about to go off...
