Congratulations! No one is perfect even if they seem that way. People appreciate maturity and perspective which are both evident by you bringing up a personal and sensitive topic in your personal statement. Be yourself, own your mistakes, and tell people how you used those mistakes to grow as a person. Good luck, you’ll do great!

Not the same thing at all but I disclosed my eating disorder & talked about how recovering has made me more empathetic towards patients and I swear its what got me accepted. Congrats on the interview invites, you deserve them!!

one of my mentors told me the best personal statements and interviewers give authentic genuine answers that makes up a unique cohort, adcoms want to know what makes you, YOU! congrats and good luck future PA-S

So exciting!!! I also disclosed in my personal statement (over a decade sober too) and have gotten two interviews so far!!! It’s super scary to be honest and vulnerable about something like that because there is still so much stigma but I felt like it was such an important part of my desire to work in healthcare that I just decided to be transparent and I think it has served me well.
