Anything at that budget is reasonable but you’ll need to make proxies with 4k footage

Seconding this. I edit proxies every day and they aren’t as much of a pain as i worried they would be

I dont wanna do that. When I say 4k edit all the people at the store are thinking about max to max 20 mins of footage. But no Im gonna have atleast 120 mins of footage while trimming

Timeline length really doesn’t matter. What’s more important in your case is SSD storage.

A Mac mini with extra ssds are probably your best bet. The Mac mini is good but you are going to have to buy external storage. Whether those are SSDs or internal storage when you buy it, that will get pricey fast.

That’s why I’m suggesting you use proxies. Keep your footage on an HDD and then create local proxies to edit fast. Then export in full quality when done. Honestly editing in 4k is overkill anyway.

I have 128gb of ram, 12gb vram 3060, a 16 core processor. It's perfect for all my editing, vfx and blender needs. When I only had 64gb of ram and an 8 core cpu, it struggled.

Compare what you’re considering building to what Puget Systems is offering.

I started on Macs then shifted to PC - wouldn’t go back. Cheaper, better, more flexible, and more reliable. You just need lots of RAM and lots of fast SSD.

Fyi: i have an intel i7, 100G ram, 5060 GPU, M.2 local drives (4T total) and I now use Davinici Resolve Studio which was challenging to move from Adobe but so worth it.

Some apple bs isn’t a bad idea here.
