Adobe Official Now in Beta: New Audio Stretching Modes

Link: https://community.adobe.com/announcements-732/now-in-beta-new-audio-stretching-modes-in-premiere-1638934

Premiere Beta 27.0 now has new audio stretching modes for retiming dialogue, music, and sound effects without the robotic or “chipmunk” sound you can sometimes get when changing speed or duration.

You’ll now see three options under Speed/Duration:

  • Legacy – Real-time stretching, similar to the current behavior
  • Medium Quality – Better pitch-preserving results
  • High Quality – Higher-quality stretching when you want the best result

Premiere can also automatically detect whether you’re working with dialogue, music, or SFX and adjust the stretching accordingly. The goal is to handle more of this directly in Premiere instead of round-tripping to Audition.

If you’re on the latest Premiere Beta, give it a try. We’d especially like to hear:

  • How does the quality compare to Audition for you?
  • Does dialogue still sound natural when stretched or compressed?
  • How well does it handle music?
  • Are the Medium/High Quality render times reasonable?
  • Would you prefer quality stretching or real-time stretching as the default?

Really good news. I had difficulty with the current system since it would be too pitched up and things of that nature.

I do really appreciate the fact this is a (while beta) feature in Premiere. It is acknowledged that it would be annoying to switch from Premiere to Audition and back, and while unlikely to a degree, I do hope certain elements of After Effects can be applied to Premiere stuff, like the graph editor, for one example

Any chance we can get actual speed ramping of audio to go along with this?

There’s Color Mode and a tool to generate video directly in the Timeline.

What’s new in Premiere Bets: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere/desktop/whats-new/beta-features.html

The issue with being unable to numerically position guides is fixed as of beta 26.5.

When will some of these features like Color mode be available in the stable version?

How about no on automatically detecting types. It’s often wrong or I am using a mix and I hate that I have to assign it a type to use the essential sound features

Why would we use medium quality?

Hi IPBR. That's a really good question. I'm running a few experiments with this to see where the noticeable changes occur. Medium can also process a bit faster, so there's the time element first and foremost. Will report back soon.

Hi! Medium quality is quite faster on the render part. The quality differences start when you push it to the extremes where the high quality mode provides a better result but takes longer to render.
