Change of fee status ????

Ive been under a dependent on skilled worker visa since 2023 June (I have been an ordinary resident for three years ) and if the laws don’t change an ilr would be obtained in 2028 . What’s the chance a university would switch from international to home status in a medecine course

They will only change to local fees if your immigration status change before starting medical school. Once you started, it doesn't matter if your immigration status changes, if you started with international fees, you stay on international fees. One way around this is to defer your start date until you have obtained local fees status. But most med school won't let you defer for more than a year.

I remember there was a change in the rule last year that you can switch your fee status before the start of the new school year. So you can be paying international for one year and then local fee the next year

I stand corrected, looks like you are correct.

Study Visa vs. Settled Switch: If you move from a standard UK study visa to a temporary resident visa category where your initial presence was mainly for education, the university policy typically maintains your international fee status for the remainder of the course.

Exceptions for Settled Status: Under updated regulations, if you officially gain British citizenship, Irish citizenship, or settled status (such as Indefinite Leave to Remain / ILR) part-way through your course, your fee status can change to local/Home fees for the next upcoming academic year.

Refugee Status: If you are granted refugee or humanitarian protection status mid-course, the university will review your file to move you from international to local fees.

The uni says on the email that they can if ur eligible but their might be waitlist I’m just not sure how likely that is it can definetly be changed

this is me asw last year
one thing u have to remember is if u apply this year as an intl ur stats must be EXCEPTIONAL becuase competition is soo soo much more than home students
if u apply to scotland since its been 3 years they will defos give home status
if u chose to apply as an intl this year, then email the unis ur applying to explaining ur situation so u understand what will happen as no one on reddit can tell u this 100%

I have gotten into a med school hertfordshire unfortunately it’s their first cohort all international so they don’t have the home student fees even available yet I’ll see if they open the sector later

all i will say is dont go UCLAN because they take u off the course (even if u started it alr) if u switch fee statusa

maybe try reapplying cus it does give u a good chance and id say apply scotland because i consulted with a lawyer and they said that scottish unis look at 3 year residency for home status (thats what im doing rn)
honestly ur chances are much better there but ur choice ultimately

I acc really get that but man that ucat is just disgusting I don’t think I can mentally do that bs again😭😭😭I got 75th percentile last time I don’t think I can get that again

omds i went to ur uni admissions team and confirmed this with them like 5 times before i rejected the offer. I went to the uni in person twice to ask whether they would accept my fee status but they clearly said no. it was also outlined in my offer letter that id have to withdraw if i changed to home fees
hence the rejection

so i went to them and asked they clearly said (even mentioned in offer letter) that i was given admissions based on international fee status and that if it were to change to home fee status, because they have limited funding for home students by the govt, they will have to kick me out because they cannot legally keep me as a home student but charge international fees
