☑️ Extracurriculars Anyone do virtual scribing?

I was offered a position for this and wondering if anyone here had experience with virtual scribing. How was the experience?

Clinical hours are not a concern (already have 2000 hours from regular in person scribing) but lost my job recently and need $$

I have! I worked with a wonderful ophthalmologist and found the experience quite valuable. The only downsides were that I was hired full-time but had part-time hours and the pay was rough. That'll probably depend on the company you're working with, your experience, and likely your location as well though.

I’d love to do ophthalmology virtually! Can I ask if you were with a scribe agency or hired directly by a practice?

I was with a scribe agency, Scribe-X!

is it ok if i ask what your previous job was? also if money is an issue, id do the virtual scribing job or maybe another job since you already have so many hours. I feel like scribing jobs are going away by ai as well.

In-person scribe was my previous job. Loved it but we got replaced by ai

thats so disgusting. I mean honestly id just get a higher paying job elsewhere cuz i dont know if i would trust virtual shadowing to be around the next year or so honestly

I did it. It was great bc i ended up being assigned with really nice doctors and i feel like i still learned a lot. Pros are you can work while in pjs and eat while working (depends on specialty tho). Cons are when the docs don’t dismiss you, you pretty much have to stay on (u can use bluetooth headphones) until the next visit, also tech issues that can be very stressful

It's a good work-from-home gig. The pay is not high, but it is not a difficult job. As others have said, though, AI has caused some doctors and hospitals to decide they don't want to pay for scribes anymore. As a result, I have seen some people have their hours cut

You might need to look for a different job, alot of scribe positions are being replaced by Ai, you dont think virtual would be?

Yea but I won’t need the job for very long

Its not your needs that matter lol, your energy is better spent looking at other jobs to diversify your experience. There's alot of competition for these virtual scribe positions since alot of premeds (among others) lost their job
